This year’s award season is slowly nearing its final stage, and the BAFTAs is the latest ceremony to announce its winners. The Power of the Dog walked away with the trophy for best film, while Dune topped the awards tally with a total of five awards in craft categories.

Jane Campion’s western drama managed to beat Belfast, Dune, Don’t Look Up, and Licorice Pizza to win the award for the best movie. Campion also won the award for the best director but lost the screenwriting award to CODA’s Sian Heder.

It was also a big night for Dune, which topped the list of nominees with a total of 11 nods, and managed to walk away with five awards. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic collected trophies for best cinematography, production design, special visual effects, sound, and original score.

When it comes to the acting categories, front-runner Will Smith collected another award for King Richard, while dark horse Joanna Scanlan was named best actress for After Love. Troy Kotsur (CODA) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) came out victorious in the supporting categories. Lashana Lynch picked up EE Rising Star Award, the only award voted by the public.

The 75th British Academy Film Awards took place on March 13th, with Rebel Wilson hosting the festivities.

Jane Campion managed to create a lot of buzz with her latest project The Power of the Dog and the Academy Awards voters were definitely taking notice. This western drama topped the list of nominations for this year’s Oscars with a total of 12 nods.

The Power of the Dog is one of the movies competing for the best picture award, but it will have to face some tough competition. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune came in second with a total of 10 nominations, while Belfast and West Side Story are sharing the third spot with seven. They’re all in the running for best picture, together with Don’t Look Up, CODA, Drive My Car, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, and Nightmare Alley.

In addition to scoring 12 nominations, The Power of the Dog set several major milestones in its wake. Jane Campion made history as the first female filmmaker with two separate best director nods and the first woman to direct a movie with over 10 Oscar nominations. The Power of the Dog also had a good showing in the acting categories, with Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee all receiving nods for their performances.

The 94th Academy Awards will take place on March 27th at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and the host is yet to be determined.

Most major movie organizations have released their award contenders by now, and the Screen Actors Guild is the latest to join a growing list. The list of SAG Awards nominations is in, with House of Gucci and The Power of the Dog scoring most nods in the movie categories, while Ted Lasso and Succession led the way in the TV field.

House of Gucci is in the running for one of the biggest awards of the night—outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture—but it will have to face tough competition in Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, and King Richard. Its stars Lady Gaga and Jared Leto also received nominations in their respective categories.

Surprisingly enough, the cast of Jane Campion’s western The Power of the Dog didn’t receive a joint nomination. Its stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Kodi Smit-McPhee were recognized for their individual performances, but not with the rest of the cast.

When it comes to the TV field, Ted Lasso and Succession are clear favorites with five nominations each. Squid Game, The Morning Show, and Mare of Easttown followed closely with four nominations each, and Only Murders in the Building was right behind with three.

The SAG Awards will be held on February 27th, and they’ll be broadcast live on TBS and TNT.

The Golden Globes were held quietly on Sunday night without any stars in attendance, but that didn’t stop the HFPA from awarding some of the year’s biggest movies and TV shows. The Power of the Dog, West Side Story, and Succession topped the list of winners with three trophies each.

After receiving nods in seven categories, Netflix’s western drama The Power of the Dog managed to collect a total of three awards. It was crowned as the best motion picture – drama, while Jane Campion collected the award for best director, and Kodi Smit-McPhee was named the best supporting actor.

Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story dominated the comedy or musical field and also collected a total of three awards. It was named the best motion picture – musical or comedy, while its breakout stars Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose received acting awards.

When it comes to the TV field, it was a big night for HBO’s drama Succession. As everyone expected, this critically acclaimed series won the award for the best drama series, while its stars Jeremy Strong and Sarah Snook came out victorious in two acting categories.

The Golden Globes were held privately at the Beverly Hilton on January 9th, without red carpet and live broadcast.

The film is a feature adaptation of Thomas Savage’s 1967 novel of the same name. It follows brothers Phil (Cumberbatch) and George Burbank. The two brothers are joint owners of the biggest ranch in their Montana valley. When George secretly marries local widow Rose (Moss), an angry Phil wages a relentless war to destroy her by using her son Peter as a pawn.

The Power of the Dog is a sublime novel that deserves a life on the big screen. I couldn’t stop thinking about the story, it really haunted me. The themes of masculinity, nostalgia and betrayal are an intoxicating mix,” Campion said. “It’s also rare to find a story where the themes, the plot and the characters build tension as they reveal each other and even the end is satisfying and unexpected. It will be the first time I’ve worked with a male lead, which is exciting. Phil is a charismatic and complex character who declares war on his brother’s new wife and her teenage son.”

The film is set to go into pre-production at the end of the year. It will be presented to buyers at Cannes via Cross City Films.

The Award season is heating up, and the Golden Globes are one of the first major awards shows to announce its nominees. Belfast and The Power of the Dog are leading the way with seven nominations each, while Succession is the main contender in the TV field with five nods.

Belfast and The Power of the Dog will be competing for one of the biggest awards of the night—best motion picture drama—together with CODA, King Richard, and Dune. They’ll be going head to head in several more categories, including best director and best screenplay.

When it comes to the comedy and musical side, the list of contenders includes Cyrano, Don’t Look Up, Licorice Pizza, Tick Tick Boom, and West Side Story. Don’t Look Up and West Side Story are the main contenders in this field, with five nominations each.

The television side features many familiar faces, as many of the previous Emmy winners are in the running for top awards. Succession is leading the drama field with a total of five nominations, followed by Ted Lasso and The Morning Show with four each.

The Golden Globe nominations were announced by Snoop Dogg on Monday, while the ceremony is set to take place on January 9th, 2022.

Elisabeth Moss and Benedict Cumberbatch are set to star in The Power Of The Dog.
