The 13-minute performance was tightly choreographed featuring lots of technology with the greatest hits from his decade-long-career. Super Bowl LV was like no other as it had strict pandemic restrictions and the stadium was only one-tenth full. But the singer didn’t let them stop him from tearing up the stage.

The performance continued the bad-night-in-Las Vegas storyline that’s been present in all of the videos and TV performances around his latest album After Hours with the addition of references to his past albums.

While he’s been wearing a lot of bandages or had exaggerated plastic surgery in video and TV appearances to promote the latest album, last night the singer sported a natural look with a mustache and light beard and wore a glittery version of his After Hours red jacket and black pants.

According to his manager, the Weeknd spent $7 million of his own money on the performance which featured a huge multi-level stage that was designed like a theatrical neon-lit cityscape.

While there was no guest star appearance, the singer wasn’t alone on stage. There were over a hundred backup dancers that performed robotic moves and wore creepy costumes like white robes and helmets with red lights for eyes and head-bandages.

He started the show with “Starboy” and then sang “The Hills”, “I Can’t Feel My Face”, “I Feel It Coming”, “Save Your Tears”, “Earned It”, “High for This”, and “Blinding Lights”.
