]]>The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, the personification of dreams and nightmares, who sets out to restore order to his realm after being imprisoned for over a century. The series is based on Neil Gaiman’s iconic series of comic books, originally published during the ’90s.
In addition to Sturridge, the series also stars Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, Patton Oswalt, David Thewlis, Jenna Coleman, Gwendoline Christie, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. Gaiman developed the series for Netflix alongside David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg after it spent years in the development hell.
The news of the show’s renewal started circling around after DC Comic’s Twitter page tweeted, “The dream continues. [The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless.”
The tweet has since been deleted, but the show’s renewal makes sense since it proved to be quite a hit for Netflix. It premiered to positive reviews and topped Netflix’s Top 10 list for three weeks following its premiere on August 5.
