]]>A Strange Loop came into the night as the most nominated project, with a total of 11 nods, end eventually won two of them, including the best musical. Hudson picked up Tony as one of the producers of the original Broadway production, joining the EGOT club along the way.
Hudson started collecting EGOT-worthy awards in 2007, when she won the Oscar for her supporting role in Dreamgirls. She went on to win two Grammys – the best R&B album for Jennifer Hudson in 2009 and the best musical theater album for her work on The Color Purple in 2017. She came one step closer to EGOT last year when she received a Daytime Emmy Award for her work on Baba Yaga.
Hudson followed in the footsteps of recent winners Alan Menken, John Legend, and Andrew Lloyd Webber to become the seventeenth person to reach EGOT. She’s also the second black woman after Whoopi Goldberg in 2002 to become the EGOT winner.

]]>The Tonys, which honor the best of Broadway at Radio City Music Hall, remain indefinitely postponed. The network previously postponed the Broadway-focused awards broadcast in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
CBS’ broadcast of Grease is part of the channel’s Sunday Night Movies series and will feature follow-along lyrics to the movie’s iconic tunes. Additional titles airing during Sunday Night Movies include Titanic (May 24), and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (May 31).
In addition to the prior postponement of the Tony Awards, it was announced earlier this week that Broadway would remain closed until at least September 6. However, according to New York Post, insiders say the pause is likely to continue through at least winter.
