At the end of 2019, John Frusciante rejoined Red Hot Chili Peppers. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic has halted all tours and performances, instead of touring, the band members are focusing on writing and making new music.

Now, Frusciante announced his newest project, Maya. The album, scheduled to drop on October 23rd, is an instrumental multi-genre album. It combines jungle, hardcore, and breakbeat music and it’s dedicated to Frusciante’s cat.

Speaking of the new album, the guitarist said: “I don’t have that interest in singing or writing lyrics like I used to. The natural thing when I’m by myself now is to just make music like the stuff being released this year. I really love the back and forth with machines and the computer.”

This is not Frusciante’s first solo project this year. In May and in June, using his alias Trickfinger, he released Look Down, See Us and She Smiles Because She Presses the Button—his second and third acid house albums.

Until the new album comes out we can enjoy the first song released from it: Amethblowl.
