A recent article on THR delved into the difficulties facing the Disney+ service and Bob Iger’s new mission to help the struggling service. Along the way, some interesting facts came to light.

One of these facts is that at some point Disney planned — and even began — developing a TRON TV series, but the project was scrapped.

The project was led by John Ridley, who previously wrote 12 Years a slave and was the showrunner of American Crime. The show was set in the universe set by the 1982 cult classic TRON, 2010’s TRON: Legacy, and 2012’s animated series TRON: Uprising. There was also a plan for a third movie as Joseph Kosinski, The TRON: Legacy director, teased it was to be an invasion movie in which computer characters coming out to conquer the real world.

The new series was set up through Ridley’s overall ABC Studios deal. No further details about its proposed contents were disclosed. At least two other projects were also scrapped — the previously announced Muppets Live Another Day from Adam Horowitz, Eddy Kitsis, and Josh Gad and Book Of Enchantment, which would’ve featured some Disney villains.
