]]>The acclaimed ape drama is set to return with a new film in development. The original 1968 Planet of the Apes film was based on a novel by French writer Pierre Boulle.
Fox has tapped filmmaker and Maze Runner helmer Wes Ball to direct the new installment in the iconic franchise.
The new film marks the first significant title to set in motion following Disney’s acquisition of the studio.
It is unclear whether the newly announced project, still in very early stages of development will be a new reboot an extension of the previous film series, Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes.

]]>Should he join the production, Elba will star opposite the previously announced Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elba is in final negotiations to star as legendary champion Celanawe, “an Obi-Wan Kenobi-like figure who was once a legendary champion and now thought long gone.”
The adaptation is based on the Mouse Guard series created, written and illustrated by David Peterson launched in 2006. It tells the story of a brotherhood of mice sworn to serve their fellow mice in a medieval world. Serkis will portray the villainous blacksmith Midnight and Brodie-Sangster will play Lieam, one of the Mouse Guard’s youngest members.
Set to direct Fox’s adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic is Wes Ball (Maze Runner). The live-action fantasy movie will use the same technology employed in the Planet of the Apes films.
Production is expected to begin this spring.
