An announcement confirmed that the 19th Tribeca Film Festival will open with the world premiere of the presidential portrait docu feature. The premiere event will take place April 15 at New York’s Beacon Theatre and will be followed by live performances from Nelson, Paul Shaffer, and others.

Directed by music documentarian Mary Wharton, the pic was written by Bill Flanagan and produced by Chris Farrell. 

“The film accurately captures my love for all music and the importance music has played in my personal and professional life. I remain hopeful and believe that music can serve to bring us together as a nation,” Carter said in a statement. “Rosalynn and I are pleased with the fine film Mary and Chris have made and thank all those involved for telling this story. We are thrilled that it will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.”

Wharton’s other credits include docu pics on Sam Cooke, Joan Baez, Phish and Farrah Fawcett.

After announcing multiple debut dates in the past, Back to the Future director confirms that Back to the Future: The Musical will finally hit the stage for its world premiere in 2020. 

The long-awaited musical based on the 1985 film Back to the Future debut early in 2020, showing at the Manchester Opera House in the UK from February 20 through May 17. According to Playbill, a London engagement will follow at a West End venue but no Broadway plans have been announced.

The musical is directed by Tony-winner John Rando from a book by the film’s co-writer Bob Gale. Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis is attached as a producer. Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard wrote the score.

“Bob Zemeckis and I have been trying to get this project off the ground for years, but good things take time and finally, the time is right,” said Gale. “Our cast is outstanding, the songs are fantastic, and director John Rando is doing an amazing job ensuring the show truly captures the magic of the movie. We’re thrilled that we can retell our story on stage in a brand-new way, and we’re certain that Back to the Future fans all over the world will share our enthusiasm. In the words of Marty McFly, ‘your kids are gonna love it’ — and so will you and your parents.”

Multiple outlets confirm that the highly anticipated Elton John biopic will have its world premiere during the Cannes Film festival on May 16. 

“We are incredibly honored and excited to premiere our movie Rocketman at the Cannes film festival on May 16th. This has been a labor of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very special film,” said producers Rocket Pictures and Marv Films in a statement.

The film is a story about the fantastical human story of John’s breakthrough years. It follows John’s early days as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music up to his eventual musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. 

The film stars Taron Egerton as the musical icon. Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard also star. 

Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who took the reins on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after director Bryan Singer was fired. That film went on to collect close to $900M at the global box office. 

A domestic release has been slated for May 31.
