It’s been pushed back twice, once to February 2019, and then again to August 2019 before Disney purchased 20th Century Fox and pushed it back yet again to April 2020. The COVID-19 outbreak became the last hurdle.

During these multiple delays, the movie underwent changes and several tweaking sessions. Some Fox executives have even been rumored to suggest a complete reshooting of the movie. After a major restructuring, Josh Boone, the director, said he made more changes when Disney took over.

In his Instagram account, Jackman shared a clip showing him fighting his own character—in an action figure form—but quickly admitting defeat, acknowledging Wolverine is just too fast for him.

“So here’s the thing. When the studio called and asked if I could get in shape to play #Wolverine in 3 weeks. I might have over promised!” the actor wrote in the caption. “But wouldn’t you have too? Happy 20th Anniversary X-Men Universe. #Xmen #20.”

Alongside the clip, the actor also shared several posters of the X-Men movies and a screenshot of the Wikipedia article about it with an arrow pointing to the release date—July 14th, 2000, and an animated cake with candles and the number 20 on top.

Jackman has recently reflected on his role as Wolverine and his love for the franchise. “I did nine movies, but a couple were cameo-ish sort of things. Really, seven movies. I learned so much over those years. I feel so blessed to have the part, and I’m taking on a character that’s so beloved to so many. I’ll commit to that every day of the week, right? I’ll give 110%.”
