]]>1917 won three of the biggest awards of the night – best film, best British film, and best director. Its triumph didn’t end there—the film also dominated the technical categories, including cinematography, production design, sound, and special visual effects.
The list of major winners at this year’s BAFTAs also included Joker with three awards (best actor in a leading role, original score, and casting) and Parasite with two (best original screenplay and best foreign film).
The BAFTA Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on February 2nd, with Graham Norton hosting the ceremony.

Succession won the award for Best Episodic Television (Drama) and Fleabag received the award for Best Episodic Television (comedy). Chernobyl won the Limited series award, Apollo: Missions to the Moon took the Televised or Streamed Motion Picture award, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won the Live Entertainment & Talk Television award, Ru Paul’s Drag Race won the Game & Competition Television award, and Apollo 11 won the Documentary Motion Picture award.

The list of major winners also included Sam Mendes, who was crowned as best director for his work on 1917, and Quentin Tarantino who picked up the best screenplay award for Once Upon a Time. Korean black comedy Parasite won the best foreign-language film trophy.

]]>1917 director Sam Mendes was joined by Roger Deakins, co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, producer Pippa Harris and co-stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman on stage at the film’s preview panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday.
The movie’s set in two hours of one day in the spring of 1917, after the Germans —retreated to the Hindenburg line. It follows two young British soldiers, played by MacKay and Chapmen, who are tasked with delivering a message that will save the lives of countless men.
“It’s across this landscape that the two young men are sent to preserve the lives of 1,600 men who are to be sent to attack the Hindenberg line,” Mendes e explained. “The movie takes place in just two hours and in one unbroken shot.”
“It was so exhilarating and exciting when it worked that it kept you going for days at a time,” said Mendes, who also added that before cameras started rolling, the actors underwent intense preparation.
“We rehearsed this movie more than I’ve ever rehearsed any movie,” Mendes said. “You can’t jump through space and time. You have to measure the set to match the dialogue, and you have measure the distances.”
1917 hits theaters this December.

]]>Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Firth will star in the War World I feature simply titled 1917. Also set to star is Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden and Mark Strong.
According to Variety, 1917 film follows two young British soldiers, played by George MacKay and Dean-Charles Cahapman on a single day at the height of World War I.
Andrew Scott, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan and Claire Duburcq are also starring in the film.
The DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures film is set to start shooting April 1st on location in England and Scotland. According to the outlet, the feature was given a limited release date of December 25, after which it’ll go wide on Jan. 10, 2020.
Mendes will direct from a script co-written by himself with Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
