Multiple outlets confirm that Bette Midler will sing “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns at this year’s Oscars.

The news that The 91st Academy Awards will feature a special performance by the two-time Best Actress nominee, was announced by Midler herself on Twitter Saturday.

“So, (drum roll) Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be chanteusing (that’s singing) on the Oscars on Feb 24…the nominated song from “Mary Poppins”…”The Place Where Lost Things Go” …so excited!!” she wrote and was immediately retweeted by the Academy.

The song was originally performed by Emily Blunt in Mary Poppins Returns. Both composer, Marc Shaiman and song are nominated for best original song. According to Variety, Shaiman is expected to accompany Midler on piano.

“As a child of the ’60s, I grew up obsessed with the Mary Poppins soundtrack, learning everything about songwriting and film scoring from it,” Shaiman wrote on Facebook. “As a teenager in the ’70s, I became obsessed with new star Bette Midler, who fate amazingly led me to, resulting in our 40-year relationship. Could I have ever imagined that one day Bette Midler would sing a song I co-wrote with Scott Wittman for a sequel to Mary Poppins at the Academy Awards?! My heart is exploding.”

The Oscars will be held on February 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

This year’s Academy Awards are going to be quite… different.

First, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in August that it would be introducing a new category — Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film.

Thankfully, the awful idea, which was criticised by many in Hollywood for cheapening the awards, as well as discrediting the films which would have been nominated, was put on the shelf.

Then came the controversy around the ceremony’s host… For the first time in 30 years, the Oscars will not have a single host to guide us through proceedings following Kevin Hart’s resignation amidst the emergence of his previous homophobic remarks.

Now, The Academy has announced yet another change to its traditional ceremony.

The 91st Academy Awards will not include performances by all 5 nominees for Best Original Song.

Instead, only “All the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA from Black Panther and A Star Is Born’sShallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper will be performed on the live broadcast.

Mary Poppins Returns star Lin-Manuel Miranda — who would have performed the nominated song “The Place Where Lost Things Go” — has called the decision “disappointing”.

We have to agree…

We’ve long predicted that Mark Ronson will be walking away with an Oscar on the 24th of February, but it seems we’re not the only ones.

The music producer already has a Golden Globe under his belt for co-writing and producing the song Shallow from A Star Is Born, and is likely to repeat the feat as the track is expected to win Best Original Song next month.

Now, someone who has been on that stage to receive that exact award has expressed belief that Ronson will be doing so too.

“You’re having a bit of a run at the moment. Oh my God — considering what a career you’ve had, you couldn’t have a stronger moment than what you’re having now with the Miley record, which is fantastic, and you. And then the Gaga, which you won a Golden Globe for, Shallow,” said Elton John, who won the Oscar for Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King, whilst interviewing the nominee. “And I bet my house that you’re going to win the Oscar, so make room for it. I don’t want to jinx it, but I guarantee you you’re going to win an Oscar.”

We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

The 2019 Oscar nominations and in and all we can say is wow!

As usual the list of nominees for the 91st annual Academy Awards includes some notable snubs, but this year’s list includes one major surprise.

For the first time ever a comic book superhero film earned a Best Picture nom. Black Panther has scored a whopping seven nominations in all, including the night’s biggest honors.

The Favourite and Roma tied for most nominations of the year, with ten each.

The Alfonso Cuarón helmed drama scored noms for Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Cinematography, as well as Best Picture and Best Foreign Language Film. While there were no big surprises there, the black-and-white feature also earned its actresses Yalitza Aparicio and Marina De Tavira nods for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively.

Surprisingly, A Star Is Born director Bradley Cooper has been left off of the nominees list for Best Director. The remake of the classic tale earned eight nominations including Best Picture and acting noms for Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Emily Blunt was also left off of the list of nominees for Best Actress — another major snub. The film earned a total of four nods including Best Original Song for “The Place Where Lost Things Go.”

Kevin Hart might just be irreplaceable…

The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star was announced last week as the host of the 2018 Oscars.

The reveal was met with consternation by some who felt that remarks which the comedian had made in previous stand-up routines were unacceptable.

Three days later, the 39-year-old resigned from the role and offered an apology to the LGBTQ community which h had offended.

The incident once again left The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences searching for a master of ceremonies for its 91st ceremony which will be held on the 24th of February.

With The Academy reportedly “gun shy about going with someone, anyone who might be too edgy”, according to Variety, it might just decide to not have any host at all.

While the Academy Awards has always had a host throughout its 91 years, shows like the Golden Globes make do without, allowing various stars to introduce different categories and announce the winners.

With no backup host having been put in place, time will tell which route The Academy decides to go…

Kevin Hart has stepped down as host of the 2019 Oscars.

Just a couple of days after he was announced as the host upcoming 91st Academy Awards on Hart has announced that he has decided to step down from hosting this year’s award’s show.

Multiple outlets report that following an outcry over his homophobic and transphobic comments, Hart has decided to step down from the hosting gig. The comedian took to Twitter Thursday to make the announcement.

“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s,” Hart wrote. He continued with an apology to the LGBTQ community, “This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

The decade-old offensive tweets resurfaced and with them a demand that he steps down as host. At first, Hart said he would not apologize for his comments, despite being given an ultimatum by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In a video shared on Instagram, he criticized people saying, “I’ve addressed it several times,” and added, “The same energy that went into finding those old tweets is the same energy that could have been put into finding the response to the questions that have been asked years after years.”

In a follow-up tweet, he added, “I’m sorry that I hurt people,” he continued in the following tweet. “I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart.  Much love & appreciation to the Academy.  I hope we can meet again.”
