Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe reprised their roles from the first movie, with the director John Krasinski making a brief appearance and Cillian Murphy joining the cast. The sequel was hailed as a worthy successor to A Quiet Place and received praise from the critics.

It will be based on the idea of director John Krasinski, but he won’t be returning to the same role. Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud) will step in to helm the project and will also serve as a writer.

The third entry in the franchise is believed to be still in the early stages of development. Krasinski did, however, tell Rotten Tomatoes’ Erik Davis that Nichols already handed the first draft of the script.

Co-written and directed by Krasinski, A Quiet Place became a surprise hit when it first came out in 2018. It received universal critical acclaim and earned $341 million compared to just a $21 million budget, prompting the studio to immediately start working on the sequel.

Krasinksi and most of the cast from the original came back for A Quiet Place Part II, which received a worldwide theatrical release in May. The movie set several post-pandemic records and has been getting positive reviews.

Paramount Pictures has moved up the release date of a Quiet Place Part II from September 17 to May 28.

The film, directed by John Krasinski and starring Emily Blunt, has been moved around many times during the pandemic. It was originally supposed to be released in March 2020 but was rescheduled after the pandemic started to spread in the U.S. A red carpet premiere for the film was held in New York City on March 8, 2020, right before the country was forced to shut down.

“They always say good things come to those who wait,” Krasinski wrote on Twitter. “Well… I think we’ve waited long enough.”

The news comes just a week after Paramount announced they would be shortening the theatrical window with plans to put A Quiet Place Part II, Mission: Impossible 7, and other upcoming titles on the streaming service Paramount+ after 45 days in theaters. Before the pandemic, cinema operators were required to keep their movies in theaters for 90 days.

A Quiet Place Part II features the surviving members of the Abbot family—Evelyn (Blunt) and her children, Regan (Millicent Simmonds), Marcus (Noah Jupe), and a newborn baby living in silence to hide from creatures who hunt noise, while facing the outside world.

A teaser trailer for A Quiet Place II has landed and it looks like things are about to get taken up a notch.

The John Krasinski thriller was one of the strongest movies of 2018. A Quiet Place takes place in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by lethal creatures who hunt by sound. The killer reptiles are blind and so if you can stay silent, there’s a chance for survival. Of course, this is more difficult than it seems and all sorts of challenges present themselves over the course of the movie.

After an incredibly tense hour and a half, the movie ends with Emily Blunt pointing a gun at the door as she prepares to take on one of the creatures. She has a satisfied smile on her face as she realizes that thanks to her daughter’s discovery, they finally have the opportunity to fight the monsters that have taken everything from them.

The teaser trailer shows Emily Blunt silently walking along a path of sand with her daughter and a shotgun. When the teaser ends, she takes a step onto the path, presumably indicating that she is planning to attract the creatures so she can take aim and fire.

Either way, it looks like things are going to get even tenser in the Krasinski sequel. Take a look at the teaser below:

Krasinski wasn’t too crazy about the idea of doing the sequel, but he knew it was inevitable after the enormous success of A Quiet Place. He’s currently working on a script, but doesn’t intend to build a new world around the characters we know and love.

“The reason I decided to go back, in the end, was this world is so rich, and it’s so much fun to explore. There are so many different things to see now. Everyone else in the world is experiencing this, so I’m curious to see what that looks like from another perspective,” explained Krasinski.

It’s a little bit heartbreaking to learn we probably won’t get to see what happened to the surviving members of the Abbott family after that final frame, but maybe it’s for the best. A Quiet Place was a perfect film on its own, and its open-ended nature gives us an opportunity to use our imagination and decided for ourselves where the Abbotts are now.
