Average Height, Average Build also stars Robert Downey Jr. as a retired cop who won’t give up on the murders. He’ll be joined by the Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and Till‘s Danielle Deadwyler, while the rest of the cast will be announced before production kicks off later this year.

Adams previously starred in McKay’s Oscar-nominated political satire Vice alongside Christian Bale and received another supporting actress nod for her performance. Their limited series Kings of America is set to premiere on Netflix, and McKay will be in charge of directing the first episode. Jess Kimball Leslie created the series, with Diana Son set to serve as showrunner.

Kings of America will center on three powerful women, whose lives are intertwined due to their connection to the Walmart Corporation. One of them is a rich heiress, the other is the company’s top executive, while the third is Walmart saleswoman and preacher trying to file a historic class-action suit against the retail giant.

This intriguing comedy will start shooting this April, and it will tell the story of two low-level astronomers who embark on a media tour to warn the world that there’s a giant asteroid approaching Earth and threatening the survival of mankind.

Don’t Look Up will be McKay’s first directorial effort since his Oscar-nominated Dick Cheney biopic Vice, and he can’t wait to join forces with Lawrence to bring this story to life.

“I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite act. And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way,” said the Academy Award-winning filmmaker.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t McKay’s only project that Lawrence is attached to star in. The Hunger Games actress is also expected to play the lead role in Bad Blood, the story of disgraced biotech entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes.

The series will be based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s and tell the story of Lakers’ success during Showtime era, which defined this team for decades to come.

Jerry Buss, who purchased the team in 1979, was the key figure in Lakers’ long history because he managed to redefine American sports as we know it with his revolutionary ideas.

Adam McKay, who collaborated with John C. Reilly on several occasions in the past, will be in charge of directing the pilot and stay on board as an executive producer if HBO gives it a green light.

The longtime partners announced Saturday that they have decided to dissolve their production partnership and go their separate ways. The separation is an amicable one, and stems from the mutual desire to ranch out separately and focus on individual creative efforts. 

“The last 13 years could not have been more enjoyable and satisfying for the two of us at Sanchez Productions,” Ferrell and McKay said in a joint statement. “We give massive thanks to our incredible staff and executives and all the writers, directors and actors we worked with through the years. The two of us will always work together creatively and always be friends. And we recognize we are lucky as hell to end this venture as such.”

The duo signed a three-year first look deal at Paramount in September, which means that they still have quite a lot going on under their Sanchez banner. However, in the statement they confirmed that they will see all existing projects to completion. 

“The duo is committed to working together creatively on their extensive slate of shared projects,” they added in the statement. “They will to continue to support each other both personally and professionally as they explore new endeavors as well as their own individual projects. Moving forward, any future projects they may partner on will go through their yet to be announced new ventures.”
