Guy Ritchie’s remake of Aladdin was met with mostly positive reviews and earned over $1 billion on the box office, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to hear that Disney is exploring the possibility of continuing this story.

Disney producer Dan Lin discussed studio’s plans for the sequel with Insider. Nothing is official just yet, but judging by his words, the studio is open to the possibility because they believe that Jasmine and Aladdin’s story is far from over.

“We are hearing fans’ desires to see another Aladdin movie and feel like there’s more story to tell. I can tell you, that just like with the first Aladdin movie, we’re not going to make just a straight remake. We’re looking at what’s the right story to tell,” explained Lin.

The live-action remake of Aladdin came out on May 24th, and it starred Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith. They still haven’t signed on for a sequel, but it’s safe to expect they’ll return to their respective roles if Disney decides to proceed with this project.

You ain’t never had a friend like Will Smith.

The Oscar-nominated actor is taking on one of his most challenging roles yet — that of filling the shoes of Robin Williams in Aladdin.

The late actor iconized the blue Genie in the 1992 animated film, with Smith now attempting to do the same in the live-action version that opens on May 24th.

One of The Genie’s most famous moments was surely his performance of “Friend Like Me”.

The Suicide Squad star, who is also a musician, has now decided to give a fresh spin to the classic song by doing a rap version.

Smith is joined on the track by DJ Khaled who is undoubtedly one of the biggest music producers at the moment.

“I went into the studio the first day and I really wanted to play with it to see if I could add something to it,” the 50-year-old said in a press statement. “Literally 30 minutes in the studio, and started to play with the song [and] the 94/96 BPM range. That BPM range is right old school hip hop.”

The actor previously told Ellen DeGeneres that his portrayal of The Genie was inspired by his character in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

From West Agrabah, born and raised.

Here comes Genie!

Disney has finally dropped another trailer for Aladdin during the Grammys on Sunday night. This trailer comes months after Disney released the first teaser-trailer for its live-action remake of the 1992 animated hit.

This trailer, however, finally reveals the highly anticipated character of Will Smith as the magical Genie. Even though we only get a short glimpse of Smith’s Genie, we can say that it is a somewhat surprising bulked-up blue Genie. Smith takes on the character of Genie who was voiced by legendary Robin Williams in the original film.

Also featured in the trailer are Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen and Numan Acar also star in the film.

Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie from a script penned by John August. The film will feature original songs as well as some new music from Alan Menken. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing, and Marc Platt and Kevin De La Noy serve as executive producers.

The original Aladdin was the highest-grossing film of 1992 year and the first animated feature to reach the half-billion mark. It was the highest-grossing animated film of all-time until surpassed by The Lion King in 1994. The animated film also won two Academy Awards and a Grammy for Song of the Year.

Aladdin flies into theaters May 24, 2019.

Disney’s live-action adaptation will feature new songs, that will be ‘empowering’ for women.

Variety reports that Disney’s new adaptation of Aladdin will feature the film’s classic and much-loved musical repertoire as well as two new tunes, which will be added to the mix. The news was teased by the film’s actor Mena Massoud, who stars as the titular character at this year’s GQ Men of the Year party.

We’ve got all the original music in there, plus a couple of new songs,” Massoud told the outlet. “They’re really empowering. I gotta say one is very empowering for women, I think people are going to really, really dig it. The other one is awesome as well. We got the same guys who did La La Land and The Greatest Showman, we’re in good hands.”

The Guy Ritchie-helmed film is definitely taking its cues from the original animated film, but now we know that new sounds will definitely be added to the magical world of Agrabah.

The first teaser for the upcoming live-action version of Aladdin is here and it’s as magical as it gets. This epic first trailer doesn’t reveal much, but it makes it crystal clear that Disney’s latest remake will be another visual masterpiece.

The short clip gave us glimpses of amazing things that are yet to come – wide shots of sandy dunes, a peek inside the Cave of Wonders and one last look at our hero reaching for Genie’s lamp. The trailer kicks off with a new version of “Arabian Nights” and ends with an instrumental version of “Friend Like Me” playing in the distance.

Despite the fact it didn’t show us much in terms of the plot, this teaser gave us איק first glimpse of Mena Massoud as the titular hero. This Canadian actor of Egyptian descent was complete unknown at the time of his casting, but he’s slowly making a name for himself. Massoud had a chance to show off his acting chops in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and key roles in several promising projects in the meantime.

The retelling of Disney’s animated classic also stars Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar and Will Smith as Genie. It’s set to arrive in theaters on May 24, 2019.

Disney has been having a lot of success with live-action remakes of its animated classics as of late, such as Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, and its next attempt to capitalize on nostalgia appears to be Aladdin, which appears likely to be released in 2019.

We just started shooting Aladdin and I wanted to intro you guys to our new family… Mena Massoud/Aladdin, Naomi Scott/Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari/Jafar, and I’m over here gettin my Genie on. Here we go!

Posted by Will Smith on Wednesday, September 6, 2017

Among the lead actors is Will Smith, who is slated to fill the role of the Genie, memorably played by Robin Williams in the original animated classic that was released in 1992. The 49-year-old Smith, who released the first photos of the main cast from filming, is coming off the major box office success of Suicide Squad, in which he played the legendary assassin known as Deadshot.

Much like in 1992, when it cast the then-relatively unknown Scott Weinger as Aladdin (although Weinger would earn fame as Steve Hale on Full House before Aladdin was released), Disney opted to choose a lesser-known actor as the titular character with the Egyptian-born Mena Massoud as Aladdin. Other than a recurring role on the TeenNick series Open Heart as Jared Malik, Massoud has yet to have any regular roles in the United States.

Starring opposite Massoud will be Naomi Scott, who is coming off an appearance as Kimberly in the recent Power Rangers reboot. The choice of Scott represents Disney returning to some past experiences, as Scott has previously worked with the company in the film Lemonade Mouth when she played Mo Banjaree.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BXamX94hccJ/

The final member of the main cast will be Marwan Kenzari, who will take the role as the chief villain, the sorceror Jafar. Kenzari is a Dutch actor of Tunisian descent, and his most recent major role came as a supporting actor in Tom Cruise’s version of The Mummy.

The final member of the main cast will be Marwan Kenzari, who will take the role as the chief villain, the sorceror Jafar. Kenzari is a Dutch actor of Tunisian descent, and his most recent major role came as a supporting actor in Tom Cruise’s version of The Mummy.
