Traditionally, each movie distributed is initially screened exclusively in theaters for about 90 days. Only then the studio can move it to a streaming or video-on-demand service. However, as the pandemic forced theaters to close their doors, Universal has released the animated Trolls World Tour straight to VOD. NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell said the company will release its movies in both formats simultaneously even after the reopening of the theaters.

This created a rift between Universal and AMC. The theater company even said it will not play any of Universal’s movies in its theaters. However, as AMC was hit hard financially by the pandemic and as Universal rosters include heavyweights as Fast & Furious 9, Jurassic Park, and Despicable Me, the parties were bound to make amends.

The new deal will give Universal the option to move its films to premium VOD services only, including AMC’s own service. This often means digital rentals of 20 dollars and not standard VOD services.

It’s officially less of a wait for Killing Eve fans with AMC announcing that the show’s third season premiere, has been moved forward by two weeks.

The Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer-starring series is coming sooner than expected, with the debut scheduled for April 26, now scheduled for April 12.

“We know how adored this series is and we know how keen people are for great content right now,” said Sarah Barnett, president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios. “This season of Killing Eve digs deep psychologically, and with actors like Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, and Fiona Shaw the results are nothing short of astonishing. We literally couldn’t wait for fans to see it.”

Killing Eve was created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Suzanne Heathcote serves as lead writer and executive producer. Executive producers are Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Damon Thomas, Jeff Melvoin, Suzanne Heathcote and Oh.

News that AMC has renewed the series for a sixth and final season was announced Thursday by showrunner Peter Gould and co-creator Vince Gilligan during the show’s Television Critics’ Association winter press tour panel. News of the final renewal comes a month before season 5 is set to premiere on the cabler.

“From day one of Better Call Saul, my dream was to tell the complete story of our complicated and compromised hero, Jimmy McGill – now AMC and Sony are making that dream come true,” said Gould. “We couldn’t be more grateful to the fans and critics who are making this journey possible.  Next month we start work on the sixth and final season — we’re going to do our damnedest to stick the landing.”

Multiple outlets confirm that AMC has decided not to renew Lodge 49 for a third season. 

The network opted to cancel the show just two weeks after it has ended its second season run. 

The series was described by the network as a “modern fable set in Long Beach, California about a disarmingly optimistic local ex-surfer, Dud (Wyatt Russell), who’s drifting after the death of his father and collapse of the family business.”

“We are so proud to have had Lodge 49 on our air,” AMC said in a statement. “This wonderful show gave audiences fresh and unforgettable characters in a world that did not exist anywhere else on television. Thanks to the stellar cast including Wyatt Russell, Sonya Cassidy, and Brent Jennings and to our partners in this unique labor of love, Jim Gavin, Peter Ocko and Paul Giamatti for two remarkable seasons that initiated the world into The Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx.”

In addition to Russell, Cassidy, and Jennings, the series also starred Linda Emond, David Pasquesi, Eric Allan Kramer, Avis-Marie Barnes, Njema Williams, and Jimmy Gonzales.

“His name is Felix and he is very much the protector of a younger generation,” he described his character. “The show is focusing on a younger generation of people, 10 years post-apocalypse, and I’m kind of the dad in charge.”

This time setting keeps the new spinoff in line with the current progress of the original show and the former spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead. This will allow crossovers, should AMC choose to make some. It should be noted that such crossovers have been made between the original series and Fear the Walking Dead, with characters such as Morgan and Dwight appearing on both shows. It is also hinted there might be a crossover with the franchise’s movie trilogy that is being led by Andrew Lincoln – Rick Grimes from the original series.

AMC hasn’t announced a premiere date yet.

The 9^th season of the long-running show got a pretty decent reception after former seasons saw the show’s rating dwindle. The franchise itself is facing growth in the near future as several new spin-offs are in the making as well as The Walking Dead movies that are in planning.

Showrunner Angela Kang has previously hinted in an interview to EW that the characters will have to deal this season with natural elements and their influence on the survivors in an apocalyptic world. “We will definitely see our people trying to contend with things that they can’t handle in the same ways that we do in our world now.”

Multiple outlets confirm that the AMC series has been cancelled. 

Rogan revealed the news on social media writing, “The fourth and final season of Preacher is coming. It’s been a wild ride. Thank you all.” He also revealed that the final season will premiere on August 4.

The series hails from Seth Roger and Evan Goldberg. It is based on the comic book novels by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

The Preacher followed West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as they embark on a road trip to find God and are thrust into a twisted battle spanning Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

Ian Coletti, Graham McTavish, Pip Torrens, Julie Ann Emery, Malcolm Barrett, Betty Buckley, and Colin Cunningham also starred.

Preacher debuted in May 2016 and was renewed for a fourth season last November.

61st Street is being developed under the cable network’s new script-to-series model. The racial drama hails from showrunner and executive producer Peter Moffat and exec producer Michael B. Jordan. 

According to Variety, the series, which is set in present-day Chicago follows Moses Johnson, a promising high school athlete, who is swept up into the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system. Taken by the police as a gang member, he soon finds himself in the eye of the storm as police and prosecutors seek revenge for the death of an officer during a drug bust gone wrong.

“Award-winning writer Peter Moffat’s 61st Street is a murder mystery, courtroom drama, and an examination of race in America wrapped up into one,” AMC programming president David Madden said. “Peter justly won acclaim for Criminal Justice, the British thriller which was remade by HBO as The Night Of, and in this case he’s partnered with extraordinary producers, the Outlier Society team of Michael B. Jordan and Alana Mayo. This is an emotional and audacious piece of drama that is as timely as television gets, and we are excited to put it into a writers’ room and see where the team takes it.”

Season 10 of AMC’s zombie drama is likely to be Danai Gurira’s last.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gurira who joined the series in Season 3 and stars as Michonne, will exit The Walking Dead. The outlet reports that Gurira has signed a deal to return for her final season of the hit drama in a limited capacity, which basically means that she is set to star in a handful of episodes throughout Season 10. 

Gurira’s exit will follow Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan’s departures from the show in  Season 9. Gurira is likely to segue to the three Walking Dead TV movies starring Lincoln. 

At the time of his exit, Lincoln said, ”It’s not the beginning of the end, it’s the end of the beginning. And I like the idea that we get to tell a bigger story, maybe with a sort of wider vista. And I’ve always been interested in what’s going on out there, you know, whether or not there is contact with the wider world. I want to know the meta of it all. And I suppose to be able to kind of touch upon that in a contained story for me is a very exciting proposition… Maybe it’s the start of a bigger story.”

Gurira’s other credits include last year’s Black Panther. She also a Tony-nominated playwright.
