The third series of AMC’s The Walking Dead franchise is in production now with the working title Monument, and new details are slowly being revealed. In an interview with Chicago Tribune, Nico Tortorella, who was cast in one of the lead roles in August, says the spinoff is taking place about 10 years after the apocalypse.

“His name is Felix and he is very much the protector of a younger generation,” he described his character. “The show is focusing on a younger generation of people, 10 years post-apocalypse, and I’m kind of the dad in charge.”

This time setting keeps the new spinoff in line with the current progress of the original show and the former spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead. This will allow crossovers, should AMC choose to make some. It should be noted that such crossovers have been made between the original series and Fear the Walking Dead, with characters such as Morgan and Dwight appearing on both shows. It is also hinted there might be a crossover with the franchise’s movie trilogy that is being led by Andrew Lincoln – Rick Grimes from the original series.

AMC hasn’t announced a premiere date yet.
