Andrew Lincoln is Gearing Up For “The Walking Dead” Comeback

Andrew Lincoln is no longer playing Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of him. The famous actor already started plotting his return and he’ll come back to play his most iconic character to date in a series of spin-off movies.

Lincoln’s almost 10-year run as Rick Grimes came to a close during Season 9. After almost a decade spent on the set of The Walking Dead, the actor felt it’s finally time to focus on his family and announced his departure.

Grimes has been the beating heart of the AMC’s zombie smash hit since the very beginning, and his final episode proved to be pretty polarizing. Some of the fans were happy he made it out alive, while others found it too ambiguous and open-ended.

It seems like they’re going to get all the answers they’ve been looking for in a new series of spin-off movies. They’ll explore the story of where Rick Grimes was taken and what he faces in a new corner of the zombie apocalypse.

Andrew Lincoln Might Return to “The Walking Dead” as Director

Earlier this summer it was announced that Andrew Lincoln is walking away from his character Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead halfway through season nine, which surprised many of the show’s fans. But it seems like Lincoln has intentions to return to the show in another role. He wants to become a director for AMC’s hit zombie drama in season 10.

The 45-year-old actor revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he is going back to the set of The Walking Dead, where the rest of the season nine is currently being filmed, to shadow a director and then wants to direct himself next year.

“I’m going back,” Lincoln told EW. “I’m going back to shadow a director, and my intention is to direct next year.”

It might be strange for an actor to return so quickly to the show he just left, but Andrew Lincoln has his reasons.

“I can’t be that far away because I can’t bear it.” he shared. “That’s how much I am invested in the show and the continuation of the story.”

Lincoln won’t be the only actor from The Walking Dead franchise to get a taste of directing as well. Colman Domingo and Michael Cudlitz, two actors featured on The Walking Dead spinoff Fear the Walking Dead, also got to shadow a director and direct episodes of their show.

Andrew Lincoln Would Prefer His Character Not be Killed Off

Andrew Lincoln wants a happy ending for his character on The Walking Dead.

It has recently been confirmed that Andrew Lincoln will be leaving The Walking Dead after Season 9. As far as what will happen to his character Rick Grimes goes, there have been no spoilers so far.

It would be reasonable to anticipate that his character will be killed off, given that this is what usually happens when characters leave, barring a few exceptions. Lincoln has shared that he would prefer it if Rick is not killed off but has a ‘Lennie James’ type exit. James’ character Megan left the series alive and moved over to Fear the Walking Dead.

“Lennie James is a perfect example of leaving without dying and doing rather well on it,” he said at San Diego Comic-Con. “So there is that way.”

“And then there is obviously the other way, which we’ve done quite a lot.

“Obviously I’m not going to tell you which way [Rick goes out]… I mean, I’d prefer the Lennie James of it all. But I think what we have in store this season is truly remarkable, and I’m very proud of the work that we’ve done.”

Survey Says: Half of “The Walking Dead” Fans Will Quit After Rick’s Exit

As you probably know by now, The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln is set to leave the series after season nine. According to recent reports, Lincoln will reprise his role of Rick Grimes in six more episodes and call it quits, with AMC looking to make Daryl the new face of The Walking Dead. Well, according to the latest survey, this will play into the network’s favor.

The Walking Dead sub-Reddit did an extensive survey about the series’ future among its fans with close to 900 people taking part. According to the results, 44 percent of them will stop watching the series after Rick leaves. 36.9 percent were undecided, while just 18.9 percent said they will definitely continue to watch. Considering the way Rick should bow out from The Walking Dead, 51 percent of participants in the survey said they would prefer for him to die while 49 percent would like to see him just leave.

When it comes to The Walking Dead’s new lead, Negan would be the fans’ top choice, receiving 40 percent from all the participants in the survey. Judith is in the second place with 20 percent, while Daryl is their third choice with 15.

In response to other parts of the survey, more than two-thirds of The Walking Dead fans said they would like to see the series ending after the season nine, while almost half of them would like to see the show move further away from the comics source material. Finally, Tara is the most hated character, since 625 respondents wished for the character to die.

Season eight of The Walking Dead wrapped back in April while the production for season nine of the series is set to begin in March 2018. The new episodes are set to premiere later this year.
