Batman’s future in DC Universe was in limbo ever since Ben Affleck announced his departure, but it seems Warner Bros. found someone else to take on the mantle. Armie Hammer is reportedly in final negotiations to play the role of the Dark Knight.

Nothing is official just yet, but Hammer seems like a good replacement for Affleck in upcoming superhero flick directed by Matt Reeves. This film is scheduled for 2021 release date and it will focus on a younger and less-experienced version of Batman.

Before reports of Hammer’s involvement started making the rounds online, a couple of other young Hollywood stars were linked with this project. Ansel Elgort, Dylan O’Brien, Logan Lerman,  Noah Centineo, Jack O’Connell, Richard Madden, Kit Harington, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were reportedly also in the talks.

Despite a couple of smudges on his resume, Armie Hammer managed to reinvent himself in the last couple of years with roles in critically acclaimed projects The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Call Me by Your Name and Sorry to Bother You. We’ll next see him in thriller Hotel Mumbai, also starring Dev Patel and Jason Isaacs.

With Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck most likely set to leave the DC Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. will have to start searching for new faces to play two most iconic comic superheroes, Superman and Batman. When it comes to the Caped Crusader, there is one face that fans would like to see portraying the character; Mad Men‘s star Jon Hamm. As it turns out, Hamm would be very open to the idea.

During his recent appearance on Graham Bensinger’s In Depth, Jon Hamm was asked by Bensinger about rumors that he is interested in playing Batman. While Hamm explained that he was never offered the role, he admitted he was intrigued by the idea.

“It depends…on the script, what the story is,” he told Bensinger. “I am a huge comic book fan, always have been…it depends on the story. It all comes down to the story.”

After Bensinger pressed him a bit more, Jon Hamm decided to offer an answer that will get the DC fans excited.

“I’d probably fit the suit. I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love,” – the 47-year-old actor said. “I am sure there’s an interesting version of that being out there and if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it, why not?”

You can check out the entire conversation between Ham and Graham Bensinger on Batman topic below.

While he was in acting business since the mid-90s, Jon Hamm started gaining widespread recognition in 2007 when he got the role of Don Draper in AMC’s drama Mad Men. The series was a huge hit, while Hamm received numerous accolades for his work including Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama in 2008 and 2016, and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2015. After Mad Men wrapped up in 2015, he went on to play in several successful movies including Keeping Up with the Joneses, Baby Driver, and Tag.
