Taylor Swift set more records than we can count throughout 2023, and she ended the year by breaking another one. She returned atop the Billboard 200 chart with her album 1989 (Taylor’s Version), breaking Elvis Presley’s record for most weeks at No. 1 among soloists.

With 98,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending on December 28, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for its fifth non-consecutive week. Album sales comprise 61,000, SEA units comprise 36,000 (48.5 million official streams of the set’s songs), while TEA units make up for 1,000 equivalent album units.

Swift reached this number across all 13 of her chart-topping releases, starting with Fearless, which spent 11 weeks atop the Billboard 200 following its release in 2008. Folklore came close, with eight weeks at No. 1, followed by Red with seven and Speak Now and Midnights with six each.

2023 has been a historic year for Taylor Swift, and she’s ending it atop the Billboard 200 chart. Her latest re-recording 1989 (Taylor’s Version) returned to the top of the chart for its fourth non-consecutive week, helping Swift end the year at No. 1.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) earned 136,000 equivalent album units during its latest week on the chart, dethroning Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2, which fell to No. 2 with 100,000 equivalent album units earned. It’s one of Swift’s three albums in the top 10 this week, alongside former No. 1s Midnights and Lover.

Several holiday albums also managed to make it to the top ten this week, starting with Michael Bublé’s former No. 1 Christmas at No. 4 with 70,000 units. It’s followed by Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song at no. 8 and Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas at no. 10.

Swift is ending the year at No. 1 after breaking countless records throughout 2023 and being named Time’s “Person of the Year”. She told the magazine that she’s not taking her success for granted and that she’ll deal with it by doing what she does best—making new music.

“I’m very careful to be grateful every second that I get to be doing this at this level because I’ve had it taken away from me before. There is one thing I’ve learned: My response to anything that happens, good or bad, is to keep making things. Keep making art,” Swift told Time.

Nicki Minaj made quite a splash with her latest album Pink Friday 2, and this week’s Billboard 200 chart reflects its enormous success. The sequel to her debut album Pink Friday easily hit no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and set several major records along the way.

With 228,000 equivalent album units earned during its first week, Pink Friday 2 topped the Billboard 200 chart, becoming Minaj’s third album to do so. Pink Friday and Pink Friday: Reloaded achieved the same feat, helping Minaj become the only female rapper with three No. 1 albums in the US.

Pink Friday 2 also earned the largest streaming week of Minaj’s career, with 129,000 SEA units earned, equaling 169.87 million on-demand official streams. The album also earned 92,000 equivalent album units in pure album sales, including 25,000 vinyl copies sold, for the largest vinyl week for a rap album by a female artist in history.

Pink Friday 2 was released on December 8, and it serves as the sequel to her debut album from 2010. It was preceded by singles “Super Freaky Girl” and “Last Time I Saw You” and features a total of 22 tracks on the standard edition, including collaborations with J. Taylor Swift has broken more records than we can count throughout 2023, and she’s showing no signs of stopping. She charted five albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 this week, becoming the only living artist and the first since Prince to ever do so.

Swift’s most recent LP 1989 (Taylor’s Version) returned to No. 1, with 141,000 equivalent album units earned during its latest week on the chart. Four more of her former No. 1s also charted in the top 10, including Midnights at No. 3, Folklore at No. 5, Lover at No. 6, and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) at No. 10.

There are several reasons behind Swift’s recent Billboard 200 domination. Like many titles on the chart this week, Swift’s albums experienced major gains due to retail promotions associated with Black Friday and holiday campaigns. The lack of major album releases around Thanksgiving also helped Swift’s old records climb up the charts.

Taylor Swift is the only artist after Prince to chart five albums in the top ten on the Billboard 200. He achieved this milestone following his death in 2016 when his albums The Very Best of Prince, the Purple Rain soundtrack, The Hits/The B-Sides, Ultimate Prince, and 1999 all made it to the top ten.

Expectations were running high for Taylor Swift’s latest re-recording 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and she managed to exceed them all. This album debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart with the largest sales week of Swift’s career and the biggest week overall in almost a decade.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) soared to No. 1 with 1.653 million equivalent album units earned, including 1.359 million in traditional sales alone. By doing so, it set the record for the largest sales week for any of Swift’s albums, surpassing 1.287 million sold by the original 1989 in 2014.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is Swift’s sixth album to have sold at least a million in a single week, joining MidnightsReputation, the original 1989Red, and Speak Now. She’s the only act since Billboard started tracking album sales in 1991 to achieve this Billboard 200 milestone.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is also the year’s top-selling album, and it scored the largest week for any album since 2015 when Adele’s 25 launched at No. 1.

It also scored the sixth largest week for any album overall, behind Adele’s 25 (3.378 million), *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached (2.416 million, in 2000) and Celebrity (1.878 million, 2001), Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP (1.76 million, 2000), Backstreet Boys’ Black & Blue (1.591 million, 2000).

1989 (Taylor’s Version) hit the shelves on October 27, the ninth anniversary of the original album, and it produced five “from the vault” tracks including the smash hit “Is It Over Now?”.

The release of Bad Bunny’s Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana took the world by surprise, but that didn’t stop it from topping the charts. This album easily soared to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the Puerto Rican rapper’s third LP to achieve this feat.

With 184,000 equivalent album units earned during its first week on the chart, Nadie Sabe was the strongest contender for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 this week. The album’s strong streaming activity is the main reason why it topped the charts, with SEA units comprising 176,000 of the album units, equaling 239.56 million on-demand official streams.

Bad Bunny scored his first No. 1 album in the US with El Último Tour Del Mundo in 2020, which made history as the first all-Spanish-language album to top the Billboard 200 chart. Its follow-up Un Verano Sin Ti spent 11 weeks at No. 1 following its release, setting several records along the way and becoming the first all-Spanish-language album to top the Billboard 200 Year-End Chart.

Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana was released October 13, just a few days after Bad Bunny’s surprise announcement, and it produced singles “Where She Goes”, “Un Preview”, and “Monaco”.

Cole, Lil Wayne, Drake, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and 50 Cent.
