]]>Lizzo has been steadily climbing the charts for months with “Truth Hurts” and this track is, without a doubt, the biggest sleeper hit of the year. This success is well-deserved, and the rapper had to deal with tough competition to get to no. 1, but something tells us that her amazing performance at this year’s MTV VMAs tipped the scales.
It took two years for this song to reach the top, and Lizzo admitted she was at a low point after it came out and even considered quitting music for good.
“The day I released ‘Truth Hurts’ was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had ever in my career. I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares,’” Lizzo told People Magazine.
Fortunately, the dark days are now behind her and the whole world is looking forward to her next empowering self-love anthem.
