The post Billy Porter Will Play Cultural Icon James Baldwin in Upcoming Biopic appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>The upcoming biopic will be based on the 1994 book James Baldwin: A Biography by David Leeming, Baldwin’s former assistant and friend for 25 years. Baldwin often explored the theme of Black identity in America through his iconic novels, such as Go Tell It on the Mountain, Notes of a Native Son, Giovanni’s Room, and If Beale Street Could Talk.
In an official statement announcing his involvement in this project, Porter reflected on Baldwin’s legacy and the way it impacted him as a person and an artist.
“As a Black queer man on this planet with relative consciousness I find myself, like James Baldwin said, ‘in a rage all the time.’ I am because James was. I stand on James Baldwin’s shoulders, and I intend to expand his legacy for generations to come,” said Porter.
Porter will co-write the project for Byron Allen‘s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures alongside his frequent collaborator Dan McCabe. He’s an acclaimed theatre actor, who got his big break in Hollywood with the role in the FX series Pose and went on to star in such films as Like a Boss, Cinderella, and 80 for Brady.

]]>The Stillz-directed video sees Lil Nas X falling in love with a fellow football player, but their love story doesn’t lead to a happy ending that he’s craving. After learning he got married and had a child, Lil Nas X decides to walk down the aisle on his own in a dramatic wedding gown.
Like many previous music videos for singles from Montero, this one has a cinematic feel and it pays obvious homage to the LGBT classic Brokeback Mountain. It also features an epic cameo from Billy Porter, who plays a priest during the climactic final scene in the church.
“That’s What I Want” serves as the fourth single from Lil Nas X’s debut album Montero, which hit the shelves on September 17th. In addition to previously released singles “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)”, “Sun Goes Down”, and “Industry Baby” ft. Jack Harlow, this record also features collaborations with Doja Cat, Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion, and Miley Cyrus.

]]>Produced by iHeartMedia and Procter & Gamble, the benefit aims to raise visibility and funds for LGBTQ+ communities impacted by the coronavirus. The special is one-hour long and it will be hosted by Z100 on-air personality Elvis Duran and actress Laverne Cox.
Can’t Cancel Pride will air on iHeartRadio’s Facebook and Instagram pages, iHeartRadio’s PrideRadio.com and broadcast on iHeartMedia stations nationwide and on the iHeartRadio app on June 25.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the complex and significant obstacles facing the LGBTQ+ community,” said Marc Pritchard, chief brand officer at P&G.
“We must continue to fight hate and intolerance against all people while redoubling our efforts to elevate LGBTQ+ visibility and providing support for those in need. ‘Can’t Cancel Pride’ is about showing the community that they are not alone and that they are seen and loved, even when stay-at-home orders have closed community centers and support systems that millions of LGBTQ+ people rely on every day,” he continued.
Viewers can get involved by sharing their Pride moments on social media with the hashtag #CantCancelPride during the month of June. If you want to donate to the cause, visit cantcancelpride.com or text “RAINBOW” to 56512.

]]>This year’s event was hosted by Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Harry Styles and Alessandro Michele. They all managed to deliver pretty impressive looks, but Gaga was the talk of the town because she hit the red carpet on several occasions, in four different Brandon Maxwell designs.
When it comes to the biggest trend of the night, Anna Wintour made several great guesses in Vogue’s Go Ask Anna series. Apart from predicting that Katy Perry will take things to extreme (by dressing up as real-life chandelier, no less), she said that feather’s will dominate this year’s red carpet.
“What we’re all, I think, most hoping to see is something that is outrageous, something that is fun, tongue-in-cheek. So my guess is that we’re going to see a very large amount of feathers on the red carpet,” said Wintour.
Men really stepped up their game at Met Gala this year, and Billy Porter led the way when he was literally carried inside, dressed in a custom made “Sun God” ensemble. It was an epic move we don’t often see on the red carpet, but if there’s one place to pull it off – it’s certainly Met Gala!
It’s almost impossible to dig up all the epic outfits from this year’s Met Gala, but we’re bringing you a few that had everyone talking, so have a look below!
