After 12 seasons, David is finally ready to wave this series goodbye, and he shared the news in a hilarious statement on social media.

“As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,” he wrote on Instagram.

The twelfth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm will feature a total of ten episodes, airing weekly on HBO, starting with the premiere on February 4, 2024.

Bloys discussed the future of several HBO shows during a recent presentation in New York, and Curb Your Enthusiasm happened to be one of them. He said that over the course of the past two decades, this series “has aired all over the schedule, and it is a highlight wherever it ends up”, adding it would return for its twelfth season in February 2024.

When the Season of 12 Curb Your Enthusiasm was initially announced, many wondered if it would be the show’s last. Bloys said there’s not much truth to these rumors, and added they’ll leave it up to Larry David to decide when the show would end.

“We generally leave that up to Larry, and I think he’s thinking about what he wants to do. He knows it’s been an open invitation, so I think he’s going to decide if he wants to do more or whether this is going to be the final season, I would guess before it airs,” said Bloys.

HBO has decided to renew the show for a 12^th season in what is pretty, pretty, pretty good news for fans of the Larry David comedy. 

The star will naturally return to play the exaggerated version of himself that has made audiences snigger and cringe since 2001. He will be joined by series regulars, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, J.B. Smoove, Cheryl Hines, Richard Lewis, Vince Vaughn, and Ted Danson. 

“Playing the role of Larry David has been the greatest honor of my life,” stated the tongue-in-cheek creator. “In researching this multi-faceted, multi-talented man, I discovered that there’s more to him than I ever could have imagined: He speaks six languages, brines his own pickles, and spearheads a national movement to install a bidet in every home. I’ve also been told from numerous sources that he is the most generous of lovers. I am so excited to once again transform into this force of nature. I only pray that I can do him justice.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm has been nominated for 51 Primetime Emmy Awards during its 11-season run, including 10 nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and 6 for Outstanding Lead Actor. 

Season 12 is scheduled to start filming later this year.

Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming, praised David for “[tapping] into the zeitgeist in such an uncomfortably delightful way” with the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and revealed that David already started writing its follow-up.

The Emmy-winning comedian jokingly announced the renewal of this hit show by saying, “Believe me, I’m as upset about this as you are. One day I can only hope that HBO will come to their senses and grant me the cancellation I so richly deserve.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a fictionalized account of Larry David’s day-to-day life, and it featured countless celebrity cameos over the years. The first eight seasons of the show aired between 2000 and 2011. They were followed by a six-year hiatus, but David finally decided to make a comeback in 2017.

The idea for Curb Your Enthusiasm was generated from a TV special titled Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm, which supposed to be a one-time project and collaboration between David and HBO. The network loved the special and soon produced the first season of the show which premiered in 2000. The show stars Larry David as a fictionalized version of himself. What makes the series special is that David establishes the plot and the subplot of each episode, but the actors themselves are required to fill in the blanks and improvise their lines for the most part.

Since its debut, Curb Your Enthusiasm gained widespread critical acclaim and a loyal fan base. Through the years, the show became one of the most appreciated in the decade and already has a cult status. Besides David, the show also stars Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, Susie Essman and J.B. Smoove as members of the regular cast.
