The streaming giant and Warner Bros. TV will adapt the best-seller comic book series from DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. The Sandman, which spanned 75 issues, centers on Morpheus, an ancient, powerful being, one of the Endless, a set of seven siblings that includes Delirium, Desire, Destruction, Despair, Destiny, and Death.

An episode count for the straight-to-series drama has yet to be confirmed.

Wonder Woman and Grey’s Anatomy Allan Heinberg will serve as scribe and showrunner. Gaiman will executive produce alongside David Goyer. 

News of the new live-action TV series follows New Line’s unsuccessful attempt to turn the graphic novel into a feature film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was originally attached to star and direct.

Warner Bros. announced Friday that the superhero tentpole has its lead. After Pattison and Nicholas Hoult were screen tested, the studio picked the Twilight alum to play the coveted role of the Caped Crusader. 

According to multiple outlets, negotiations are already underway and the studio intends to sign Pattinson for a three-picture deal. Pattison will take over the role from Ben Affleck, who starred two films and made an appearance in a third.

The forthcoming feature, an origin story is directed by Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes). He assumed the role of director from Affleck himself back in January 2017.

Pre-production is expected to start this summer, with the film slated to arrive in theaters June 25, 2021.

Elizabeth Anweis will officially star opposite Ruby Rose in The CW’s history-making drama pilot. 

According to multiple sources, Anweis will play Catherine Hamilton-Kane, Kate Kane’s (aka Batwoman’s) step-mother. Catherine made her fortune as a savvy, bullheaded defense contractor, and all those billions position her as one of Gotham’s most powerful residents. For Catherine, it’s a matter of the bottom line: Batwoman is bad for business.

Anweis joins the previously announced Dougray Scott who is set to star as Kate’s father Jacob Kane, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang, and Rachel Skarsten.

Written by Caroline Dries and directed by Marcos Siega Batwoman marks the first gay lead character of a live-action superhero series. Kate Kane (Rose), armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.

Anweis’ other TV credits include 911, Twin Peaks: The Return, The Affair, Southland, NCIS: Los Angeles.
