Amazon Prime Video describes Road House as the adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, which centers on ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal), who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.

In addition to Gyllenhaal, the cast of his highly-anticipated remake will include Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Darren Barnet, Arturo Castro, J.D. Pardo, and Conor McGregor.

Road House will serve as the opening film at this year’s South by Southwest on March 8 before heading to Amazon Prime Video on March 21. Director Doug Liman recently announced he’ll miss the film’s premiere as a way of protesting Amazon’s decision not to release it theatrically.

“Movies like Road House, people actually want to see on the big screen, and it was made for the big screen. Without movie theaters, we won’t have the commercial box office hits that are the locomotives that allow studios to take gambles on original movies and new directors,” wrote Liman in an open letter.

We’ve been waiting for this amazing news since 2014 when the first film won us over with its surprisingly refreshing time-loop premise. Despite its lukewarm box-office reception, Edge Of Tomorrow was a huge hit with the critics and it managed to earn cult following in the years to come.

Matthew Robinson (The Invention Of Lying) will be in charge of writing the script. It’s safe to expect to see Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt returning to their respective roles, but nothing is confirmed just yet. Doug Liman still hasn’t confirmed he’ll be back for the sequel either, but we’re expecting him to return since he always spoke highly of this project and its legacy.

“It’s way more meaningful to me that people are talking about the film today than if they were talking about it when it came out because that, for me, is the goal – to make movies that stand the test of time,” said Liman about Edge Of Tomorrow.
