Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho is yet to come out, but he already set his eyes on another promising project. The critically acclaimed director will be in charge of adapting Stephen King’s futuristic novel The Running Man for the big screen.

Set in a dystopian future on the verge of economic collapse, King’s original novel centered on a man who decides to take part in the game show The Running Man, in which participants have to escape vicious hunters trying to kill them.

The screenplay for this adaptation will be developed by Michael Bacall, who previously collaborated with Wright on the 2010 cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. This adaptation is somewhat of a dream project for Wright, who previously told his fans on Twitter that if he could do any remake, it would be this one.

The first adaptation of The Running Man was released in 1987, with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. It was loosely based on King’s original novel, and Wright’s upcoming project is expected to be more faithful to the source material.

Baby Driver was one of the most refreshing action movies of 2017, but it seems the best is yet to come. Edgar Wright recently announced he’s already done writing the follow-up and we can’t wait to see what he cooked up this time around.

the famous director discussed the sequel in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, and said that the first draft already exists. Wright claims this film will take the story even further and introduce a bunch of new captivating characters.

He started plotting the sequel as soon as Baby Driver came out, because he felt the titular hero is going places and wanted to figure out where exactly he is headed.

“Most sequels you have to contrive something so they go back to square one, unless there’s somewhere deeper for them to go. I think with Baby Driver there’s more that you can do in that realm,” said Wright.

It’s still unclear when we’ll get to see this exciting sequel, but it probably won’t happen any time soon. Wright is currently attached to several projects, and so is Ansel Elgort who played the lead role in this action flick.

Some rather big names are currently in contention to direct the next Bond flick.

The fate of Bond 25 has been put into jeopardy with it being announced last week that Trainspotting director, Danny Boyle, had pulled out of the project.

The reasoning behind the decision by the Oscar-winning filmmaker has been cited as “creative differences”.

In addition to Boyle’s departure was that of screenwriter, John Hodge, meaning that an entirely new screenplay will have to be produced.

As a replacement for Boyle, producers are said to be eyeing several directors, including Jean-Marc Vallee who directed Dallas Buyer’s Club (for which Matthew McConaughey won an Oscar), as well as the TV miniseries, Big Little Lies.

Another name being thrown into the hat is Baby Driver director, Edgar Wright. The Brit has, in the past, expressed a desire to helm a film about England’s most famous spy.

Despite the current state of the project, it’s premiere date has still been slated for 9 November 2019.

Talk about a shaken situation…
