Showtime has given us two of its signature comedy shows of the late 2000s with Nurse Jackie and Weeds, and there’s more where that came from! The network is plotting sequels to both shows, with the original stars Edie Falco and Mary-Louise Parker eying their return.

Both projects are still in the early stages of development, and the deals with Falco and Parker are being negotiated. They’re in talks to star and executive produce these sequels, along with the former Showtime chief Robert Greenblatt.

Abe Sylvia and Liz Flahive, who were writers and producers of Nurse Jackie, are expected to come back and write the sequel. The original series starred Edie Falco as ER nurse with substance abuse problems, straggling to balance her professional and personal life.

As for the Weeds revival, the new series would reportedly take place in Copenhagen, with Christian Torpe, the creator of the popular Danish series Rita, serving as its writer and executive producer. The series centered on a widowed mother of two, who started running a risky business to support her family after her husband died.

Both shows are part of Showtime’s new plan to focus on IP and franchise building, which also includes its classic dramas The L WordBillions, and Dexter. If the plans for these sequels pan out, they could start filming as early as 2024.
