]]>Led by the Golden Globe nominee Freddie Highmore, The Good Doctor centered on a young autistic surgeon Dr. Shaun Murphy looking for a fresh start at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. It was created for ABC by David Shore, who drew inspiration from the South Korean series of the same name.
Highmore addressed the show’s cancelation in an official statement and thanked to everyone who tuned in to watch it for their support over the years.
“Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life. I will always be grateful to David, Liz, and Erin as well as the hugely talented – and lovely – cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible,” said Highmore.
Season 7 will also star Richard Schiff, Chuku Modu, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, Christina Chang, Paige Spara, Bria Samoné Henderson, and Noah Galvin, and it’s set to premiere on February 20.

]]>Renewing The Good Doctor for another season was a no-brainer for ABC given its strong ratings. The show’s viewership among adults 18-49 has been steadily growing and its April 10 episode was the highest-rated telecast this season.
The show’s streaming numbers are just as impressive, with the same-day average of 3.3 million viewers jumping to 9.1 million after five weeks of multiplatform viewing.
The Good Doctor has been a staple of ABC’s programming since it premiered in 2017. It’s the adaptation of the South Korean series of the same name and it centers on Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young autistic surgeon with savant syndrome.
In addition to Highmore in the lead role, the cast of The Good Doctor also includes Richard Schiff, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, Christina Chang, Paige Spara, Hill Harper, and Bria Samoné Henderson.
The Good Doctor became such a huge hit for ABC that they’re thinking about expanding its universe with a proposed spinoff The Good Lawyer starring Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman.

]]>ABC has renewed the Freddie Highmore-led medical drama for another season.
The series which follows autistic surgeon Shaun Murphy (Highmore), who overcomes personal and professional hurdles while working at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital will continue to Season Three.
Currently airing its second season, The Good Doctor’s ratings are down from its freshman run. According to TVLine the series’ sophomore run is averaging 6.8 million total viewers and just over a 1.1 demo rating, down 30 and 40 percent respectively.
The series also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Richard Schiff, Hill Harper, Tamlyn Tomita, Christina Chang, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, and Paige Spara. This season will also see executive producer Daniel Dae Kim step in front of the camera. Starring in a four-four-episode arc as the hospital’s new chief of surgery Dr. Jackson Han.
ABC has also picked up Shark Tank and A Million Little Things for additional seasons.
