For the first time in its 78-year history, the Golden Globes will be broadcast from multiple locations.

The 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards is going bicoastal with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returning to helm the ceremony for the first time since 2015. But the comedians won’t be in the same room—Fey will broadcast live from New York City and Poehler will host from Los Angeles.

However, this won’t be the first time awards shows air simultaneously in different cities, as the Oscars did it in the mid-1950s for several years.

This decision is a result of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, NBC, and Globes producers Dick Clark Prods trying to figure out how to air the award show during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It still isn’t known if presenters and nominees will participate in person, remotely, or with a mixture of both.

The Golden Globes is set to air on Sunday, February 28, which is nearly two months later than normal due to the pandemic.

Last year’s awards were hosted by Ricky Gervais and they were one of the most-watched network telecasts of the year with 19.2 million viewers.

The Golden Globes are one of the most highly-anticipated award ceremonies of the year, and we finally know who’ll host the upcoming show. The stand-up comedian Jo Koy agreed to serve as the master of the ceremonies when the Golden Globes return this winter.

Koy most recently made a splash with his Funny is Funny World Tour, and he’s now gearing up to take on a brand-new challenge – hosting his very first award show!

“I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!” said Koy in a statement.

The Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne said they can’t wait to see what Koy has in store when he brings his infectious energy and relatable humor to the Golden Globes stage. Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner will be in charge of executive producing the show, and they’re excited to work with Koy to make this year’s show laugh-out-loud from beginning to end.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will be held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on January 7, 2024.
