“Too overwhelmed to get into it right now but words can’t express how grateful I am to be chosen by the queen herself and to live out yet another dream! It was my honor, to honor the Queen’s request!” wrote the actress on Instagram.

In addition to being handpicked by the Queen of Soul herself to play her in a biopic, Jennifer Hudson also sang the timeless hit “Amazing Grace” at Franklin’s funeral in 2018.

Respect is scheduled to come out on October 9th, and it will also star Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, and Mary J. Blige.

MGM studios picked up the project and will finance it, while the role of executive producers will be taken by Straight Outta Compton‘s Scott Bernstein and music producer Harvey Mason Jr. who collaborated with Franklin during her career. Hudson and Mason Jr. previously also worked together on the film Dreamgirls, for which Hudson received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
