Jennifer Hudson Reflects on Playing Aretha Franklin

Jennifer Hudson in "Respect"

We’re getting two major Aretha Franklin biopics this year, and Jennifer Hudson will be in charge of playing her in Respect. This highly-anticipated project recently wrapped up, and the Oscar-winning actress reflected on her experience in an emotional Instagram post.

Hudson announced she wrapped the production on Respect by sharing a photo from the set, and describing how important this project is to her.

“Too overwhelmed to get into it right now but words can’t express how grateful I am to be chosen by the queen herself and to live out yet another dream! It was my honor, to honor the Queen’s request!” wrote the actress on Instagram.

In addition to being handpicked by the Queen of Soul herself to play her in a biopic, Jennifer Hudson also sang the timeless hit “Amazing Grace” at Franklin’s funeral in 2018.

Respect is scheduled to come out on October 9th, and it will also star Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, and Mary J. Blige.
