Listen up, all you cool cats and kittens — Carole Baskin is back.

Almost two years since the release of the documentary series which made her a household name, the Tiger King star is getting a doccie of her own.

The 2020 Netflix production was based around the long-running feud between Baskin and Joe Exotic. The founder of Big Cats Rescue claimed that Exotic had been abusing the big cats in his care through his traveling shows and commercial petting ventures, leading to the pair launching attacks on each other’s characters.

Exotic is currently serving a 22-year jail sentence for trying to have Baskin killed.

With her nemesis behind bars, the Dancing with the Stars contestant will helm a new series called Carole Baskin’s Cage Fight that will see her investigate the treatment of the cats at Great Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park which Joe previously owned.

The animal rights activist will be joined by her husband Howard, their team, a retired homicide detective, and Exotic’s niece Chealsi for the Discovery+ documentary.

The Tiger King legacy is also continuing in other ways, with a sequel to the Netflix doccie set to be released on the streamer next month, as well as a limited series adaptation with Kate McKinnon starring as Baskin and John Cameron Mitchell as Exotic.

Listen up all you cool cats and kittens—Tiger King is making a return!

If you thought you already knew all there is to know about Joe Exotic, Netflix is here to prove you wrong. The streaming service has announced that a second season of the documentary series will be coming to a screen near you before the end of the year.

The show’s first season followed Exotic as the titular character, and his longtime feud with fellow animal sanctuary owner, Carole Baskin. Exotic is currently serving a 22-year sentence for trying to have his rival assassinated.

On its Twitter page, Netflix teased that season two promises just as much mayhem and madness as the first. Some footage of the new season also features in the service’s teaser trailer for its forthcoming shows.

We’re already sharpening our claws in anticipation!

Peacock’s limited series based on the life of Tiger King star Joe Exotic just added Sam Keeley and Nat Wolff to its cast. According to Deadline, Keeley and Wolff will star as Exotic’s husbands John Finlay and Travis Maldonado, respectively.

Finlay and Maldonado were both prominently featured in Tiger King. Netflix’s hit docu-series showed Finlay leaving Exotic after taking issue with his abusive behavior and becoming a family man. Maldonado, on the other hand, died after being involved in a gun accident.

According to the official synopsis, Peacock’s series will primarily focus on the rivalry between exotic animal park owner Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel and big-cat rights activist Carole Baskin. After learning that Exotic breeds exotic animals, Baskin makes it her mission to stop him. Exotic, on the other hand, isn’t backing down and will try to get his revenge by all means.

The series, which uses Joe Exotic as its working title, previously nabbed Tony Award-winning actor John Cameron Mitchell to play the titular character and Emmy Award-winner Kate McKinnon as Baskin. Cougar Town’s Brian Van Holt will star as John Reinke, former zoo manager who worked for Exotic.

Ethan Frankel, known for his work on Shameless, serves as writer and executive producer on Joe Exotic. It was previously revealed that the series won’t be based on Netflix’s Tiger King but rather on Wondery podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, which was hosted by journalist Rob Moor.

Before Tiger King blew up, Louis Theroux met Joe Exotic almost 10 years prior while working on his documentary America’s Most Dangerous Pets.

The British documentarian is returning to Oklahoma to investigate how Joseph Maldonado-Passage became the star he is after the Netflix series.

Louis Theroux: The Cult of Joe Exotic, a working title, will be 90-minutes long and will reflect on unseen footage from his 10-year-old documentary and he’ll meet with the team trying to get Exotic out of prison and those who are closest with him.

“This is one of those quintessentially American stories, taking place in the heartland of Oklahoma, with a cast of characters almost too colourful and larger-than-life to be believed. I spent eight or nine days filming at the park back in 2011, over the course of three separate visits. I’d forgotten how much we shot until I went back into the footage during lockdown,” Theroux said.

“It’s extraordinary how much was there. Since then the story just got stranger and bigger, and in going back at the end of last year I uncovered a real-life drama that took me in directions I never could have expected.”

Netflix’s Tiger King was a surprise hit across the platform and the reach of the series was so successful that two television projects are in development to be set in the Tiger King world.

One of these projects is a Kate McKinnon-led series about Carole Baskin and the Tiger King himself, Joe Exotic. Titled Joe Exotic, the limited series is now set to air on NBC, Peacock, and USA Network with Etan Frankel (Shameless, Friday Night Lights) writing and executive producing.

Joe Exotic will center on big cat enthusiast Carole Baskin (McKinnon), who learns that Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding cats to make money. Baskin decides to try to shut down his venture, which leads to a rivalry. But it turns out that Baskin has her own secrets and Joe will stop at nothing to expose them.

Tiger King was released on March 20 and the docuseries reached an audience of 34.3 million viewers during its first 10 days on the network.

This is one of two projects set in Tiger King world—CBS Studios and Imagine Television are working on a series based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad with Nicolas Cage set to play the lead.
