]]>Goldstein and Daley came up with the original pitch for this movie, which caught the attention of Skydance and Apple earlier this year. The project started gaining momentum after Reynolds expressed interest to come on board back in April, and his casting has finally been confirmed.
The plot of Mayday is still being kept under wraps, but the expectations are running high given Goldstein and Daley’s track record. They most recently found success with action-adventure comedy Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, after writing scripts for such hit comedies as Horrible Bosses and Game Night.
As for Reynolds, he most recently starred in the holiday comedy Spirted and made a cameo in Ghosted, but the upcoming superhero sequel Deadpool 3 is currently his main priority. Branagh has been pretty busy too, and he has several projects on the way this year, including Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and the next Hercule Poirot movie A Haunting in Venice, which he also directed.

]]>The official logline describes Haunting in Venice as a terrifying mystery set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve. The world-famous detective Hercule Poirot lives in self-imposed exile in this Italian city following his retirement, but he’s thrust back into action after attending a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo, where one of the guests is murdered.
Kenneth Branagh will return as Hercule Poirot for the third time, following the success of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, and he’ll be in pretty good company. The film’s supporting cast includes Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Kelly Reilly, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, and Riccardo Scamarcio.
A Haunting in Venice is based on Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party, and it was filmed in Venice last year. The teaser trailer was a part of 20th Century’s CinemaCon presentation, and we’ll get to see this film in full when it premieres on September 15.

]]>The coming-of-age drama about a young boy growing up in Belfast during the 60s was met with critical acclaim at TIFF and managed to beat tough competition to win the People’s Choice Award. Scarborough and The Power of the Dog were also in the running for this award and they were crowned as first and second runner-up.
What makes TIFF’s People’s Choice Award so significant is the fact it often foreshadowed Academy Award winners for Best Picture. Last year’s winner Nomadland also picked up this award, and so did Green Book and 12 Years a Slave.
When it comes to the rest of the major winners at TIFF, acting awards went to Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog). Denis Villeneuve walked away with the director award for his work on the sci-fi epic Dune.

]]>As well as directing the movie, Branagh will lead the cast as detective Hercule Poirot. He will be joined by an assortment of diverse actors: Tom Bateman who will reprise his role from Murder on the Orient Express, Annette Bening, Russel Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedi, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright.
The film is based on Christie’s novel from 1937 and the script will be written by Michael green. It will follow Poirot on a steamer traveling on the Nile, trying to find a murderer aboard. The plot is set to have many twists, leaving the audience guessing until the last moment.
It is worth noting that the former film was also boasting an impressive cast that included names such as Michelle Pfeiffer, Penélope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe, Lucy Boynton, and Daisy Ridley. So it probably not a big surprise that the new adaptation aims as high.
Death on the Nile is set to be released on October 9, 2020.

]]>Based on the book series by Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl follows the adventures of a seemingly ordinary 12-year old boy who just happens to be a criminal mastermind. He comes up with a diabolical plan to kidnap a magical fairy and ask for large ransom, hoping that’s all it takes to restore his family fortune.
Disney picked Kenneth Branagh to bring this amazing story to the big screen, and based on the trailer alone – they made the perfect choice. This isn’t Branagh’s first ride on the rodeo, since he already helmed the live-action remake of Cinderella. He also directed the first Thor movie, shortly before the merger between Disney and Marvel took place.
Casting was one of the hardest parts of the pre-production process, since 1,200 boys showed up for the audition in hope they’ll get to play titular character. Ferdia Shaw came out victorious, while Lara McDonnell won the role of the fairy Holly Short.
We can’t wait to see what these newcomer bring to the table when Artemis Fowl hits the theaters on August 9, 2019.

]]>And he’s getting a little help from Wonder Woman.
The famous Belgian detective made his 21st-century debut last year in the 2017 adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express.
The film was directed by Kenneth Branagh who also starred as the investigator.
The success of the picture — which also included Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley — has resulted in the scheduled adaptation of another of Agatha Christie’s classics, Death on the Nile.
Poirot once again finds himself having to solve a murder mystery on moving transport (this time a ship) when one of the passengers ends up dead.
The latest star to sign on to the cast is Wonder Woman actress, Gal Gadot, who will portray the part of Linnet Ridgeway Doyle, a rich heiress who in the book is married to Simon Doyle.
Death on the Nile, which will once again be directed by Branagh, hits theatres on December 20th, 2019.
