]]>Scott decided to entrust Comer with the lead role after being impressed by her work in his upcoming movie The Last Duel. Deadline reports that he was so blown away by her performance that he had her in mind for this part since day one.
Inspired by the life of the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, this project has been described as “an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to the emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.”
Scott already found his Napoleon in Joaquin Phoenix, who got his first Oscar nod with the role in the director’s 2000 movie Gladiator. Scott is expected to start production on this project after finishing the work on House of Gucci, starring Lady Gaga, Al Pacino, and Adam Driver.

The main goal of this project is to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition, and astounding strategic mind. David Scarpa is currently developing the script for 20th Century Studios, and Phoenix is the only actor attached to the cast right now.
This isn’t the first project that Scott and Phoenix are involved in together. Back in 2000, Phoenix scored his first Oscar nomination for the supporting role as the Roman emperor Commodus in the historical epic Gladiator, and its sequel is currently on the way.
