Ridley Scott recently wrapped production on his next directorial effort The Last Duel, and he’s already gearing up for its follow-up. His next film, Kitbag, will center on the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, and it will star none other than the Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix.

According to the official logline shared by Deadline, this film is “an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to the emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.”

The main goal of this project is to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition, and astounding strategic mind. David Scarpa is currently developing the script for 20th Century Studios, and Phoenix is the only actor attached to the cast right now.

This isn’t the first project that Scott and Phoenix are involved in together. Back in 2000, Phoenix scored his first Oscar nomination for the supporting role as the Roman emperor Commodus in the historical epic Gladiator, and its sequel is currently on the way.
