Too Much will center on the mid-30s workaholic Jessica (Stalter), who decides to move from New York City to London while reeling from a broken relationship. She plans to live her life in solitude, but her plans suddenly change when she develops an unusual connection with Felix (Sharpe).

Dunham thanked Netflix for being so deeply supportive of her vision to create a romantic comedy that makes us root for love and brings joy, but also has the jagged edges of life.

“This is a show that is very close to my heart – created with my husband Luis (Felber), cast with my favorite actors – the geniuses that are Meg and Will, along with a bevy of friends – and partnering again with Working Title, who are behind the romantic comedies that formed me,” she said in a statement.

Too Much will be written and directed by Dunham, and she’s also coming on board as one of the executive producers alongside Felber, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Michael P. Cohen, Surian Fletcher-Jones, and Bruce Eric Kaplan.

Multiple outlets report that the HBO/BBC series has finally announced its stars. They are Myha’la Herrold (The Tattooed Heart), Marisa Abela (Cobra), Harry Lawtey (Marcella), David Jonsson (Deep State), Nabhaan Rizwan (Informer), Freya Mavor (The ABC Murders), Will Tudor (Game of Thrones), Conor Macneill (Death and Nightingales), and Ken Leung (Marvel’s Inhumans).

Set in the world of international finance, Industry shows that world through the eyes of ambitious 20-somethings struggling to secure their futures as the boundaries between colleague, friend, love, and enemies soon blur as they immerse themselves in a company culture defined by sex, drugs, and ego as much as deals and dividends. 

Lena Dunham directs from a script penned by Britsh writing duo Mickey Down and Konrad Kay. The show’s eight installments were filmed in London and Cardiff.

Industry is expected to debut sometime next year.

Dunham has been tapped to bring the real-life story of a young female refugee’s arduous journey in search of a better life to the silver screen. She will pen the script based on Melissa Fleming’s account, A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee’s Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival.

The non-fiction novel was published in 2017. It tells the true story of Doaa Al Zamel, a mother of two fleeing Egypt for Sweden by boat. After four days at sea, their boat is shipwrecked and Al Zamel survived for days in the open water holding her two small children with only the support of an inflatable water ring.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners and J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot are co-producing the film, which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and Amblin. 

Serving as executive producer is Arif Hussein.
