We have been dreaming of getting a third Mamma Mia film and it might be coming true!

It has been almost five years since we last saw Donna, Sophie, Sam, Harry, and Bill on the Greek island of Kalokairi. The events of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again showcased Donna as a young woman and illustrated how she met the three men in her life.

The pandemic put plans for a third movie on hold indefinitely, but the director of the 2018 hit, Ol Parker, has hinted that the possibility hasn’t entirely slipped through our fingers…

“Judy Craymer, the genius producer behind the musical and the first two films, always plans for it to be a trilogy. That’s all I can say,” he teased to Screen Rant. “The first one made an enormous amount of money, and I think we made a fair amount too. I know that there is a hunger for a third, and I know that she has a plan. Wouldn’t it be lovely?”

Yes, it would!

Not to mention that, in the interim, ABBA released a whole album with 10 brand-new songs!

Amanda Seyfried and Christine Baranski have both said they would return as Sophie and Tanya, respectively, so here’s hoping producers don’t shut them down.

Mamma Mia may be getting a third film!

Judy Craymer, the producer behind the original stage production of Mamma Mia! and the 2008 and 2018 film adaptations told Daily Mail that a third installment may be coming sooner than we think.

Prior to the coronavirus, Craymer was planning the third film. “I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with COVID fog,” Craymer told Daily Mail. “I think one day there will be another film because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see. I know Universal would like me to do it.”

The musical is set to pop group ABBA’s songs and it tells the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) and her mother Donna (Meryl Streep). While Sophie’s wedding day is soon approaching, questions about her paternity begin to happen and she invites three of Donna’s past relationships (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård) to find out who her father is.

The 2018 sequel takes a deeper look into Donna’s backstory with Lily James playing her and it explores her relationships with the men and the rise of her band, Donna and the Dynamos.

A threequel has yet to be announced, but Craymer said it could include new music from ABBA.

Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Gere We Go Again were huge hits at the box office, grossing almost $400 million worldwide.

Prince gave us a great catalog of songs during his lifetime and now those songs will be used to create something new.

Universal Pictures has reportedly acquired the rights to the famous song list in order to develop an original film inspired by them.

Unlike the recent Bohemian Rhapsody, this film will not be a biopic. Instead, it is likely to follow the vein of Mamma Mia and Across the Universe which wielded stories based on tracks by ABBA and The Beatles, respectively.

Prince earned 8 Grammy Awards during his 41-year career and wrote over 400 songs, including When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, Nothing Compares 2 U and Purple Rain.

Perhaps the forthcoming film will be entitled The Ballad of Dorothy Parker…

Pierce Brosnan’s singing abilities may have landed him a role in Mamma Mia! and its sequel, but not everyone is a fan…

The 65-year-old has acted in 86 productions, but singing is not really his forte. So, when the film adaptation of the ABBA musical was ready, Pierce decided to get the opinion of a trusted friend.

The Irishman lives rather close to actress and singer Barbra Streisand who is part of the coveted EGOT collection.

“We thought we’d show it to Barbra,” Pierce told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “She wanted to see it, so we went over to her house and put the movie on. She said, ‘Come sit beside me, darling.’ I’m watching the movie thinking, ‘What am I doing showing this to Barbra Streisand?’”

Once the movie had ended, the 76-year-old praised his performance, calling it absolutely wonderful, before her late dog Sammie decided to bite Pierce on the arm!

“She said, ‘Oh Sammy, are you alright?’” Pierce recalled. “I said, ‘But, Barbra — she just bit me.’”

Jimmy then concluded: “The dog did not like your performance.”

Just as well poor Sammie won’t get to see Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!
