Ewan McGregor is fresh off his Emmy win for Halston, and his next big TV role will be even more exciting. He’s set to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the upcoming stand-alone Disney+ series, and he promises that this project “won’t disappoint”.

McGregor picked up the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie for his work on Halston and took a moment to talk about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series following his victory.

“We finished shooting our series, and it was really, really good fun. I really enjoyed working with Deborah Chow, and I think it will not disappoint. The new technology that we employed doing it is cool, and it was a different experience than making the original three films that I did,” the actor told reporters backstage.

In addition to McGregor, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will also see Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse reprise their respective roles from the Star Wars movies. Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. are some of the newcomers set to join them. The series will consist of six episodes, and it’s expected to premiere in 2022.

Don’t expect Liam Neeson to dust off his lightsaber for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series at Disney+. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Neeson revealed he hadn’t been offered a role in the project.

Neeson starred in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, portraying Qui-Gon Jinn, a character who serves as a Jedi Master of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). And while Jinn died in the movie, returning dead characters in some way is a common occurrence in the Star Wars universe.

When asked by host Jimmy Kimmel whether he will be involved in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Neeson had a disappointing answer for the Star Wars fans. “I heard Ewan McGregor was gonna do a series. No, I don’t think so. No, I haven’t been approached,” he said before jokingly adding that the producers “don’t have enough money” to lure him back.

Check out his response in full in the video below at the 06:50 mark.

Obi-Wan Kenobi television series will follow the adventures of the titular character, taking place 10 years after the events in 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. McGregor returns as a Kenobi, with Hayden Christensen also being set to reprise his role of Darth Vader.

The series will have a limited character, with six episodes being planned. It is expected to premiere at some point in 2022.

Disney+ currently has several pretty exciting Star Wars-themed shows in development, and one of them will center on the legendary Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The cast of this show is already shaping up to be amazing, and Indira Varma is the latest star to join.

Not much is known about the character that Varma is going to play, and we’re yet to find out if she’s already a part of the Star Wars canon. Details about this project are being kept under wraps in general, but the series is expected to start shooting later this spring.

Varma will be in good company on the set. Two Star Wars veterans had already been cast in this exciting project—Ewan McGregor will return as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen is expected to reprise his role as Darth Vader.

Varma is no stranger to starring in big-budget projects with a passionate fanbase, as she’s best known for her role as Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones. Her recent filmography includes roles in legal drama For Life and fantasy series Carnival Row.

We won’t have to wait too long for Ewan McGregor to done Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi robes.

In a Zoom appearance on BBC’s The Graham Norton Show McGregor revealed that Disney+’s untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series will begin filming in March 2021.

“It’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi story, I suppose. It’s not all me, but it certainly will be a lot of me, which is good,” McGregor said of the show. “We start shooting it in March next year.”

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was announced back in August 2019 and was supposed to start filming the following year, but the shoot was delayed after writer Hossein Amini left the project in January 2020.

Amini was replaced by Joby Harold in April of 2020 and then the scripts were rewritten which forced production to be delayed into 2021. Deborah Chow, who directed part of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, will helm the series.

McGregor played Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and has reprised the role in the voice cameos for 2015’s The Force Awakens and 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

There’s no release date for the unnamed Kenobi series.
