The last project Jackson worked on was The Beatles documentary series, Get Back, which featured in-studio footage that was shot in early 1969 for the 1970 feature film Let It Be. The Oscar winner also directed a one-hour version of the Fabulous Four’s final rooftop concert that was released for IMAX theatres. 

“It wasn’t as intense as making three Lord of the Rings back to back, but it was four years with a pandemic in the middle of it all,” he said of the series. 

Jackson has now revealed that he is in discussions to develop a new film with the two remaining Beatles members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. 

“I’m talking to The Beatles about another project, something very, very different than Get Back,” the director told Deadline. “We’re seeing what the possibilities are, but it’s another project with them. It’s not really a documentary… and that’s all I can really say… We are never in a position where we have to do anything, but we’ve got a few things percolating.” 

As for what the film could possibly be, the New Zealander has said, “It’s a live-action movie, but it needs technology that doesn’t quite exist at the moment, so we’re in the middle of developing the technology to allow it to happen.”

The movie expands on former Beatles documentary Let it Be that used rare footage of the band in the studio, recorded from January 2nd till January 31th, 1969. Jackson restored director Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s footage together with Park Road Post Production.

The remaining members of the original band were thrilled about the new upcoming movie. “I am really happy that Peter has delved into our archives to make a film that shows the truth about the Beatles recording together,” Paul McCartney said. “The friendship and love between us comes over and reminds me of what a crazily beautiful time we had.”

Former drummer Ringo Starr also expressed his approval of the movie. “Peter is great, and it was so cool looking at all this footage. There was hours and hours of us just laughing and playing music, not at all like the version that came out. There was a lot of joy and I think Peter will show that. I think this version will be a lot more peace and loving, like we really were.”

History was to be made when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first two people to ever walk on the moon, and history was also made when one of the greatest bands of all time called it quits.

The Beatles gave their last live performance atop the roof of the Apple Corps building in London after recording their final album, Let It Be.

In 1970, a documentary was released which covered the band rehearsing and recording songs, but it appears as though there was a lot more footage that was never seen.

So much so, that an entirely new documentary is set to be made — directed by Academy Award winner, Peter Jackson.

“The 55 hours of never-before-seen footage and 140 hours of audio made available to us, ensures this movie will be the ultimate ‘fly on the wall’ experience that Beatles fans have long dreamt about – it’s like a time machine transports us back to 1969, and we get to sit in the studio watching these four friends make great music together,” says The Lord of the Rings filmmaker.

The forthcoming feature also has the backing of the Fab Four themselves, as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and John Lennon and George Harrison’s respective widows, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, have expressed full co-operation.

Peter Jackson’s WWI documentary has set a brand new record. They Shall Never Grow Old features never-before-seen 100-year-old footage as well as previously unheard recordings to experience the war as the soldiers did. 

Deadline now reports that the documentary from Warner Bros. and three-times Oscar-winning filmmaker has set a new record grossing an estimated $3.1 million on Thursday at 1,122 theaters in North America. This means that the film has now taken in $5.4 million in just two days of showings. 

Jackson used footage from Imperial War Museum archives and voice recordings of actual British Soldiers from the BBC archives to create the documentary. He used state-of-the-art technology to colorize and sharpen the images. 

“I wanted to reach through the fog of time and pull these men into the modern world, so they can regain their humanity once more – rather than be seen only as Charlie Chaplin-type figures in the vintage archive film,” said Jackson.

According to Deadline Warner Bros. will launch a theatrical release in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC, on January 11 and plans to expand to 25 markets on February 1.

Spielberg’s latest feature, Ready Player One, earned over $117 million in theatres since being released during the last weekend of March.

Of the 33 films which the 71-year-old has released, 1982’s ET: The Extra-Terrestrial has grossed the highest with $435,110,554, followed by Jurassic Park from 1993 with $402,453,882 and 1975’s Jaws which earned $260 million.

Spielberg recently spoke about films made by streaming services such as Netflix, that is films that aren’t released in theaters, saying, “fewer and fewer filmmakers are going to struggle to raise money or to compete at Sundance and possibly get one of the specialty labels to release their films theatrically.”

Spielberg’s closest competitor when it comes to box office glory is Peter Jackson of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fame who has a tally of $6 billion.
