]]>Maggie Lawson has been tapped to star in Geniuses written and executive produced Lon Zimmet (LA to Vegas creator/executive producer). The comedy is one of six currently in the works at Fox for the 2019-2020 season.
The multi-camera comedy pilot follows a blue-collar couple in South Jersey trying to get by while raising four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.
According to Deadline, Lawson will play Cay, the family’s matriarch and clear boss of the bunch. A true Jersey girl, she’s intuitive, tough and has a strong nose for BS, which is a useful skill at her job as a pit boss at an Atlantic City casino.
Lawson’s other credits include Fox’s Lethal Weapon, The Ranch and Santa Clarita Diet. She also starred as Juliet O’Hara on Psych: The Movie and set to star in the forthcoming follow up Psych: The Movie 2.

]]>Urman has teamed up with series fan favorite Jaime Camil, who starred as Rogelio De La Vega on Jane, on a new comedy that follows a trust-fund baby (Camil) whose money is cut off.
Jane creator, Urman, is also working on the spinoff Jane the Novela, with series star Gina Rodriguez.
The still untitled series centers on a trust-fund baby who is cut off by his father. He and his wife then move into her estranged sister’s condo in Reseda, forcing the two to reconnect.
Alex Herschlag (Will & Grace) as been set as writer. Sutton Street’s Joanna Klein, Propagate’s Ben Silverman, Guillermo Restrepo, Gonzalo Cilley and Maria Lucia Hernandez Frieri will exec produce alongside Camil and Urman. CBS Television Studios will produce.
The fifth and final season of Jane the Virgin return next month.

]]>Multiple outlets announce that Chris Rock is officially on board the NBC comedy pilot starring Kenan Thompson. While Rock was an SNL cast member from 1990-93, a decade before Thompson joined in 2003.
The stand up comedian and actor has been tapped to direct the single-camera pilot about a newly widowed dad (Thompson) determined to be everything for his kids while begrudgingly letting his persistent father-in-law become more involved in their lives.
Rock and Thompson will also executive produce the show written by Jackie Clarke. Lorne Michaels, and Andrew Singer are also on board as executive producers.
Should the pilot be picked up to series, Rock will continue to exec producer, and Thompson will most likely leave SNL as a full-time cast member.

]]>The supernatural drama pilot that hails from the creators of The Good Fight has tapped Katja Herbers (Westworld) as the female lead in Evil.
Evil is written and executive produced by Robert and Michelle King. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Herbers will play Kristen Benoist, a skeptical clinical psychologist working with the Catholic Church in order to investigate cases of unexplained phenomena and to determine if there’s a scientific or supernatural explanation.
The pilot was penned by the Kings, who will also exec produce with Liz Glotzer, president of the couple’s King Size Productions. Robert will also direct the pilot.
Katja Herbers’ other credits include Divorce, Manhunt: Unabomber, The Leftovers, and Manhattan.
