Wentworth Miller, who led all five of the series’ seasons as Michael Scofield, went on Instagram and announced he will not be playing the devious character ever again. Miller, who also plays in The Flash and Madam Secretary, said he just doesn’t want to play straight characters anymore. “Their stories have been told (and told),” he wrote.

This development does not prevent the creation of another season, but it does make it somewhat unlikely. TVLine reports that sources in the network say that currently there are no plans to develop such a project. It should be noted, though, that Purcell hinted a while ago that a sixth season is planned.

Prison Break initially followed Scofield as he gets himself imprisoned in order to break out with his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) who is about to be executed. Later seasons follow the brothers as they struggle with more obstacles outside the prison.

Season five of the crime show arrived back in 2017. The sixth season has not yet been confirmed, although Fox has already said that they would be interested in another season.

Earlier this month, Dominic Purcell, who plays Michael’s brother Lincoln Burrows on the show, shared a close-up photo of his character captioned with “Hearing #october” next to clapperboard and camera emojis.

Naturally, Purcell’s followers were quick to get the hint and started questioning whether this could mean that season six will begin filming in October.

Back at the start of the year, Purcell explained that Prison Break season six would happen “if the story is worthy.”

“I get smashed with ‘when is #prisonbreak 6 happening’. What I can promise is this. We are all in agreement that if the story is worthy it will get made,” he shared on social media.

“Now with the horror of this #virus the calamity of it all drills inside me a new focus a steely resolve with PRISON BREAK 6—I’m very optimistic with #socialdistancing and a fierce adherence to expert opinion on how to beat this catastrophic unprecedented event, we all as one will be victorious over #coronavirus—corporations such as #netflix are desperate for content.

He added: “I won’t comment on pb 6 until it is time.”
