The highly successful Prison Break ran for four seasons on Fox between 2005 and 2009, and even made a mini comeback in 2017 with a short nine episodes long fifth season. Since then there have been talks of a sixth season. Now, however, it seems doubtful it will come to pass.

Wentworth Miller, who led all five of the series’ seasons as Michael Scofield, went on Instagram and announced he will not be playing the devious character ever again. Miller, who also plays in The Flash and Madam Secretary, said he just doesn’t want to play straight characters anymore. “Their stories have been told (and told),” he wrote.

This development does not prevent the creation of another season, but it does make it somewhat unlikely. TVLine reports that sources in the network say that currently there are no plans to develop such a project. It should be noted, though, that Purcell hinted a while ago that a sixth season is planned.

Prison Break initially followed Scofield as he gets himself imprisoned in order to break out with his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) who is about to be executed. Later seasons follow the brothers as they struggle with more obstacles outside the prison.
