Netflix’s official logline describes this movie as “the high-flying adventure that ensues takes the trio around the world, across the dance floor, trapped in a secluded prison, into the jungle and, worst of all for them, constantly into each other’s company.”

The first trailer for Red Notice lives up to that description and it’s action-packed and hilarious at the same time. Johnson plays the FBI’s top profiler (Johnson) who teams up with art thief (Reynolds) to put a stop to a daring heist organized by Gadot’s character.

Red Notice is arguably the biggest feature commitment that Netflix made so far, and they reportedly cashed out $130 million to acquire the distribution rights from Universal. Netflix is trying to capitalize on the star power by giving this heist comedy a limited theatrical release on November 5th, before it heads to the streaming service on November 12th.

The film centers around John Hartley (Johnson), a do-good FBI agent who brings in the biggest criminals in the world. During his task, he collides with two rival robbers mid-heist, Nolan Booth (Reynolds) and The Bishop (Gadot).

The trailer shows Johnson making a deal with Reynolds to find The Bishop and in turn, he’ll help Reynolds out of the international mess he’s become involved in.

Also starring in the film are The Umbrella Academy‘s Ritu Arya and Silicon Valley‘s Chris Diamantopoulos. Their roles have not been disclosed yet.

Red Notice was supposed to be released in theaters until Netflix purchased the film from Universal. It will be the streamer’s most expensive film to date. According to Variety, the budget is around $200 million.

Rawson Marshall Thurber of Skyscraper and We’re the Millers wrote and directed the film. Hiram Garcia, Johnson, and Dany Garcia produced it.

The Dwayne Johnson-led action movie follows Interpol agent (Johnson) tasked with capturing the most-wanted art thief in the world. Also tapped to star opposite Johnson and previously cast Gal Gadot is Ryan Reynolds. 

Johnson has teamed up again with writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber who directed Johnson in Central Intelligence and Skyscraper.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be making Red Notice with Scott Stuber and Netflix — a company that believes in filmmakers and big ideas for a global audience,” Thurber said in a statement. 

Johnson added, “With Red Notice, our goal at Seven Bucks Productions was to break down traditional barriers and create a true global event for the audience. Netflix has illustrated that they are the perfect partners to accomplish this goal.”

Red Notice is set to begin principal photography in 2020.
