]]>For an artist or a band to be eligible for induction, they must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. This marks the first year of eligibility for Missy Elliot and The White Stripes, but they’re not the only first-time nominees.
Sheryl Crow, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, and Warren Zevon are also in the running for this honor for the first time. The list of remaining nominees, in addition to Kate Bush and Iron Maiden, also includes Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, The Spinners, and A Tribe Called Quest.
John Sykes, chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, announced the nominees and praised them for the impact they had on the music industry over the decades.
“This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates. These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps,” Sykes said in a statement.
Fans have until April 28 to place their votes at vote.rockhall.com. Inductees will be announced in May, while the induction ceremony will take place in the fall.
