]]>Rocketman follows the “I’m Still Standing” singer through his life and career which included moments of drugs, alcohol, partying, and depression.
The Kingsman: The Golden Circle actor stars opposite Jamie Bell and Richard Madden, but according to Elton’s husband, Egerton was not the first choice.
The “Can’t Stop the Feeling” singer, Justin Timberlake, who previously starred in The Social Network, was originally eyed for the lead role after he portrayed Elton in the music video for “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore”.
“We never formally approached Justin because we weren’t ever at a stage where it was the right time to approach him,” David Furnish told The Hollywood Reporter. “But he did an amazing job in the video. He put on a prosthetic nose, and it turned out to have been some really interesting acting work as well.”
We’ll let you decide.

]]>Multiple outlets confirm that the highly anticipated Elton John biopic will have its world premiere during the Cannes Film festival on May 16.
“We are incredibly honored and excited to premiere our movie Rocketman at the Cannes film festival on May 16th. This has been a labor of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very special film,” said producers Rocket Pictures and Marv Films in a statement.
The film is a story about the fantastical human story of John’s breakthrough years. It follows John’s early days as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music up to his eventual musical partnership with Bernie Taupin.
The film stars Taron Egerton as the musical icon. Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard also star.
Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who took the reins on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after director Bryan Singer was fired. That film went on to collect close to $900M at the global box office.
A domestic release has been slated for May 31.

]]>But while audiences raved about Bohemian Rhapsody, some felt that the movie skipped over the controversial parts of Freddie Mercury’s life, including the wild parties, drugs, and his sexuality.
Perhaps, then, those people will be pleased to know that the upcoming film about Elton John won’t.
Rocketman, which is being produced by Elton’s husband David Furnish, is expected to be R-rated and will not brush over the challenging aspects of the musician’s life, such as his drug addiction.
The $40 million
Director Dexter Fletcher tweeted that the feature will be a “no holds barred, musical fantasy.”
Rocketman makes its UK debut on the 24th of May before heading to the US on the 31st of May.

]]>Rocketman captures Elton’s rise to stardom ahead of the 1972 release of the film’s titular hit. It shows his transformation into one of the biggest pop stars of all time, known for his iconic costumes and stage presence.
The teaser opens with a voice-over from his and partner John Reid, played by Game of Thrones star Richard Madden. “There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is. Where there was darkness there is now you, and it’s going to be a wild ride.”
This epic quote suggests that Rocketman won’t be your classic biopic. Taron Egerton described it as “fantasy musical”. He explained all the songs in the movie were used to express important beats in Elton John’s life.
Dexter Fletcher, who previously worked with the young actor on Eddie the Eagle, was in charge of directing this project. We can’t wait to see what he came up with on May 31, 2019, when Rocketman premiers.

]]>Taron Egerton will play the lead, but he won’t have to carry the movie on his shoulders. The star of Kingsman will have an amazing supporting cast to help him bring Elton’s story to life. In addition to Dallas Howard, Rocketman will also star Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin and Richard Madden as John Reid. Production will start in August, so we’re probably going to receive more casting news in weeks to come.
According to the movie’s official synopsis, Rocketman will focus on Elton John’s beginnings. It will give us a glimpse into his life as a young prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music, before telling the story of his influential and enduring musical partnership with Bernie Taupin, that helped him reach global stardom.
Rocketman will be directed by Dexter Fletcher, and it’s right up his alley. English filmmaker already made another feel-good biopic starring Egerton called Eddie the Eagle. Fletcher also proved he has chops to make a great musical with highly underrated Sunshine on Leith.
