The Elton John Biopic Will Be R-Rated

Taron Egerton in "Rocketman"

This year saw one of the biggest legends in music get his own Oscar-winning biopic.

But while audiences raved about Bohemian Rhapsody, some felt that the movie skipped over the controversial parts of Freddie Mercury’s life, including the wild parties, drugs, and his sexuality.

Perhaps, then, those people will be pleased to know that the upcoming film about Elton John won’t.

Rocketman, which is being produced by Elton’s husband David Furnish, is expected to be R-rated and will not brush over the challenging aspects of the musician’s life, such as his drug addiction.

The $40 million movie will also include love scenes between Taron Egerton, who plays the “Candle in the Wind” singer, and Richard Madden, who plays his former manager and lover, John Reid.

Director Dexter Fletcher tweeted that the feature will be a “no holds barred, musical fantasy.”

Rocketman makes its UK debut on the 24th of May before heading to the US on the 31st of May.
