]]>Deadline reports that the show’s intended director Tony Gilroy will not sit in the chair. The show will be helmed by Black Mirror director Toby Haynes. According to some sources, the change is due to travel issues for Gilroy who lives in New York while the production takes place in the UK.
Diego Luna is set to return to his character of Cassian Andor from Rogue One. Also to star in the series are Alan Tudyk, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard, and Kyle Soller.
Haynes will direct the first three episodes of the series and sources say he will probably direct future episodes as well. Apart from Black Mirror, Haynes directed episodes in shows such as Doctor Who, Sherlock, Being Human, Wallander, and more. Gilroy will remain the show’s showrunner, executive producer, and writer.
The show will follow the beginning of the rebellion against the Empire and it is described as a spy thriller. It will be streamed on Disney +.

According to the official synopsis, it’s set to explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. Luna can’t wait to go back to the Star Wars universe, because it was a very special part of his career.
“I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply,” stated Luna.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered in 2016 to critical acclaim and grossed over $1 billion worldwide. A release date for the series based on this project remains a mystery, and it’s unclear if Cassian Andor is the only original character returning for the prequel.
