Cult ABC’s sitcom Roseanne is making its return to television tonight. The first season of the revival comes 20 years after the original show ended its run, with nine episodes in store. According to the show’s star and creator, Roseanne Barr, if the audience responds well to them, more could follow.

“We’d love it to continue if people like it, then we hope it will,” said Barr to E! News.

Most of the original cast including Barr, John Goodman, Sarah Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman and Laurie Metcalf are involved in the revival, and they are all thrilled about the opportunity to continue the show’s story. They have revealed that the talks about the revival kicked off after the cast appeared on Gilbert’s talk show The Talk, and then everything was sorted out quickly.

“Three weeks later we had a deal and we were at some publicity thing in New York,” said Goodman.

“It was really fast,” Barr added.

Roseanne ran from 1987 to 1997 and focused on Conners, the working-class American family living in Illinois. According to John Goodman, the audience will find the family right where they left it 20 years ago.

“In some ways, they’re thriving,” he said. “They’re better off than a lot of people. They’re still struggling, but they have their family and they have their friends and they’re still trying to put it together.”

One question that is keeping the audience on their toes is how will the revival explain the return of Dan Conner, who died in the series finale that aired in 1997. According to the cast, all the events from the finale will be properly explained including Dan’s death. So tune in on Tuesday and find out everything.

ABC’s acclaimed sitcom Roseanne is returning to TV on Tuesday, March 27 with nine new episodes, and now the network finally revealed the first trailer for the highly anticipated reboot. It shows the Conners in familiar surroundings and promises us tons of laughter. Check it out below.

Roseanne originally ran from 1988 to 1997 on ABC, revolving around Illinois working-class family and their everyday lives. It was one of the most watched TV shows in the United States during its 9 seasons and received acclaim from the critics.

After the show ended, Roseanne Barr was in talks to star as Roseanne Conner in a spinoff series, but those plans never came to fruition. After multiple attempts to revive the sitcom, ABC greenlit the project in May 2017 and ordered eight new episodes, and adding one more later.

Original cast including Barr as Roseanne, John Goodman as Dan Connor, Sara Gilbert as Darlene Connor, Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris, Michael Fishman as DJ Connor and Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner all agreed to return. Sarah Chalke, who portrayed Becky in later seasons of the original show, will return again but in a role of a new character named Andrea. Johnny Galecki will also reprise his role of David Healy in one of the episodes.

Norm Macdonald, who served as the writer for the show between 1992 and 1993, wrote all nine episodes of the reboot.

One of the most eagerly anticipated revivals in the next year just got its premiere date. ABC announced that Roseanne revival will premiere on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. The network also revealed that Roseanne will start off with a one-hour long episode and then it will air in the regular time-slot (8-8:30 p.m.) from April 3.

“With the inimitable Roseanne at its epicenter, fresh stories that tackle today’s issues and even more laughs from a brilliant cast and crew that haven’t missed a beat, audiences old and new will celebrate the homecoming of America’s favorite working-class family,” said the network in a statement following the announcement.

Roseanne originally aired on ABC from October 1988 to May 1997 with Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert in the main roles. The show was an immediate hit, being the most watched television show in the United States in 1989 and 1990. After the initial nine seasons of the show ended, Barr was trying to get the show or some of the characters back on TV. After the revival of the show was shopped to various networks and streaming services, ABC finally greenlit the show in May 2017.

“The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant—and hilarious—today as they were then, and there’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne,” said ABC’s Channing Dungey at the time.

Besides the majority of the main cast, some of the notable guest stars also confirmed their participation in the revival. The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki is set to reprise his role of David Healy in one of the episodes, while Estelle Parsons and Sandra Bernhard also signed in to make a return.
