Scooby Dooby has some work to do and his friends are coming along for the ride.

Warner Bros. is making a new film about the canine detective and his crew who often find that monsters are just criminals in disguise.

It is not the first time that Scooby Doo has hit the big screen.

Two live-action feature films were made in 2002 and 2004 starring Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Linda Cardellini.

The newest edition will be a throwback to the original cartoon from the 70s.

The animated version, entitled Scooby, will be helmed by veteran animation director Tony Cervone, based on a script by Matt Lieberman who has penned the upcoming animation The Addams Family.

Jane the Virgin actress, Gina Rodriguez, has signed on as the voice of Velma, and will now be joined by Will Forte of The Last Man on Earth as the voice of Scooby’s ride-or-die, Shaggy.

Frank Welker, who has voiced the dog on many occasions, will do so again, while What Men Want actor will star as a character named Captain Caveman.

The roles of Fred and Daphne have yet to be announced.

If you miss the girls from Mystery Inc., then we have some great news for you. Blonde Girl Productions with Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale are bringing back Daphne and Velma in a live-action Scooby-Doo spin-off.

Production of the movie has already started with Sarah Jeffery (Shades of Blue) attached to star as Daphne and Sarah Gilman (Last Man Standing) as Velma. According to reports, the movie will be released on VOD, Blu-ray, and DVD. There is no mentioning of a theatrical run, but that may be announced in the future. There is no exact information about the release date, but the movie should arrive in 2018.

We did get, however, the synopsis for Daphne and Velma and the movie sure sounds interesting.

“Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright and optimistic Daphne and whip-smart and analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, a tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state.”

Two live-action theatrical Scooby-Doo movies were previously released in 2002 and 2004 (Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed), with Sarah Michelle Gellar starring as Daphne and Linda Cardellini as Velma. Although the third movie was announced, the plans never came to fruition since the second movie didn’t perform at the box office as expected. In 2009 and 2010, two TV movies (Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster) were produced by Cartoon Network, serving as prequels.
