Selena: The Series is will be debuting its Part 2 on May 14.

Netflix reports that the series was watched by 25 million households around the world in the first 28 days after it debuted in December. The show also reached Netflix’s top ten list in 23 countries including the U.S., Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, and Peru. In the U.S., during its first week, the show was in the #1 spot on the top 10 list.

Selena: The Series tells the coming-of-age story of Selena (Christian Serratos) with all of her dreams coming true and the life-changing choices she and her family have to make in the wake as they balance family, success, and music.

The series comes from writer/executive producer Moisés Zamora. Also starring in the series are Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemí Gonzalez, and Seidy López.

“When Selena Quintanilla burst onto the Tejano music scene in the ‘80s, her dream was to make music that celebrated both her Latin roots and her Mexican-American upbringing, She ultimately brought these two worlds together, leaving behind a timeless legacy that still resonates with generations of fans around the world,” said Netflix’s VP of Latin American Originals, Francisco Ramos.

“We had the same hopes when we released Selena: The Series in December on Netflix. We wanted to pay tribute to the young girl with big dreams and an even bigger voice, and honor her incredible rise from performing local gigs with her family to gracing some of the world’s biggest stages,” he continued.

Netflix is currently in the process of developing a series inspired by Selena Quintanilla, and it seems like they found its lead. Christian Serratos is in early negotiations to play the legendary singer in this highly-anticipated show, reports Variety.

The Walking Dead fans are very familiar with this actress who made a name for herself by playing the role of Rosita Espinosa on this hit zombie show. She’s also portrayed Angela in the Twilight saga, and starred in movies 96 Minutes and Pop Star.

Serratos’s involvement is yet to be confirmed, but Selena: The Series is coming our way, with or without her. Netflix announced this project back in December, and described it as a “coming-of-age story following Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.”

Selena Quintanilla was one of the top-selling Latina artists of ‘90s and she earned a nickname “Tejano Madonna” thanks to her unique fashion choices and incredible singing voice. Her life tragically ended at the age of 23, after the former president of her fan club killed her. Quintanilla’s incredible journey was previously portrayed in 1997 movie Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez.
