The post Timothy Olyphant Reflects on Losing Captain Kirk Role in “Star Trek” to Chris Pine appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>Olyphant recalled the time when he auditioned for J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek revival in a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He was initially auditioning for Dr. Leonard McCoy before reading for Kirk, but the studio eventually wanted to go with a younger actor for this role.
Despite not being cast as Kirk, Olyphant said he had a great experience with J.J. Abrams and described him as “a lovely guy”. He also had nothing but words of praise for Chris Pine, and said he’s a huge fan of the Dungeons & Dragons actor, both on and off screen.
“I have since then met Chris Pine and I am a huge fan of him both on and off screen… I had the honor, we’re going to say honor, to go to the Golden Globes one year…and I spent most of the evening at the bar with Chris Pine. Just really adored him. What a good guy,” said Olyphant.

]]>It has been six years since Captain Kirk and his crew graced screens in Star Trek Beyond. Although another film in the franchise was announced shortly after, it appears as though we may have to wait a little longer for it to hit cinemas as a result of a recent development.
Paramount Pictures had chosen Matt Shakman to helm the project, but the WandaVision director has now pulled out, leaving the (space)ship without a captain to guide it.
“Matt Shakman is an incredibly talented filmmaker, and we regret the timing didn’t align for him to direct our upcoming Star Trek film,” Paramount Pictures said in a statement. “We are grateful for his many contributions, are excited about the creative vision of this next chapter and look forward to bringing it to audiences all around world.”
Shakman’s withdrawal is based on reports that he is set to direct the Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios. The movie will kick off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the film due out on November 8, 2024.
As Paramount searches for Shakman’s replacement, it is not yet known if it will delay Star Trek’s release which is currently scheduled for December 22, 2023.

]]>We can pretend that is what William Shatner said as he became the oldest person ever to venture into space.
After three decades of playing Captain James T. Kirk, life imitated art when the Star Trek actor was given the opportunity to go where no man (his age) has gone before, thanks to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Shatner was part of Blue Origin’s second successful human space flight, along with the co-founder of Planet Labs, Chris Boshuizen; Medidata Solutions co-founder, Glen de Vries; and Blue Origin’s vice president of mission and flight operations, Audrey Powers.
Yet, what makes Shatner’s voyage to the final frontier even more unique is that he was 90-years-, 6-months- and 22-days-old, making him the oldest person ever to do so.
Talk about setting a goal to live long and prosper!

]]>Exact details are still unknown as it is not clear whether she meant that production itself has begun or rather the pre-production stage. It should be noted that the third season was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic so it’s possible that the crew used the time in lockdown to develop the next season.
In the meantime, the series is still going strong as it pumped new life into the franchise. The network has also greenlighted a new spinoff, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will follow Captain Pike.
The current season can be seen as kind of a reboot of the show, with the ship changing location and timeline. It also includes new characters such as Adira, a Trill who is played by Blu Del Barrio, a non-binary actor.

]]>The new animated show will follow the lower ranking Starfleet personnel stationed on “one of the Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380.”
The show was created by Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan and its characters are tasked with important missions such as taking out the space trash. Oh, and they will also save planets and keep human hearts beating without a body—small things like that.
The show will premiere on the streaming service on Thursday, August 6. It will feature Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherford, Tawny Newsome as Mariner, Jack Quaid as Bomler, and Noel Wells as Tendi. Jerry O’Connell will voice Commander Ramson and Dawnn Lewis will voice Captain Freeman.
It should be refreshing to see a show focusing on the less glamorous jobs in the fleet rather than on the unbeatable heroes that usually get all the spotlight.

]]>In a recent interview with GamesRadar+ and Total Film, Pegg, who’s played Montgomery Scott (“Scotty”) since J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot and even took part in the writing of beyond, claimed that some of the blame for the current status of the franchise and the lack of success of beyond lies on the studio failing to market the movie as effectively as it could have. “They didn’t really take advantage of the 50th anniversary. The regimen at the time dropped the ball on the promo of the film. And we’ve lost momentum.”
The bar for the movies, according to Pegg, is high. “The fact is, ‘Star Trek’ movies don’t make Marvel money,” he said. “They make maybe 500 million dollars at the most, and to make one now, on the scale they’ve set themselves, is 200 million dollars. You have to make three times that to make a profit.”

We have heard them loud and clear. We also thought there was incredible chemistry around that bridge crew so, among many things that we talk about, that idea is certainly one of them,” she said.
Along with the third season of Discovery and the new Picard series, Producers Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman have two more live-action series in development. Michelle Yeoh’s character Georgiou is getting her own spin-off series as well and this just might be the second one.

]]>During a panel held in Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia, Dorn has told the crowd he wrote a pilot for the proposed show in 2012-2013 and he is trying to make it happen since then. “it’s been going like this: a lot of interest, no interest, a lot of interest, no interest,” said Dorn.
Dorn has spoken about this idea in the past claiming in interviews that such a spinoff would be a good fit for the Discovery era of the franchise. “I always thought the Klingon Empire was a great empire to write about because it’s Shakespearean,” claimed Dorn.
According to Dorn, the new series will focus on Worf and his ship. Each episode as in The Original Series and The Next Generation will be self-contained with a beginning and a conclusion.
Maybe now when Captain Picard is getting his own show the tormented Klingon will also get his wish.
